A's Take Issue With Lowes' Celebration

Associated Press
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Some of the Oakland Athletics were furious with Derek Lowe, accusing the Red Sox pitcher of making obscene gestures toward them after he struck out Terrence Long to finish Boston's 4-3 victory in the AL division series Monday night.

"It's a situation where if you did anything where you offended anyone, I'm sorry," Lowe said. "I was swinging my arms around. I don't know what I did. I did the same crazy thing I do every game."

The A's thought Lowe simulated a sexual act with his arms and made a gesture toward his crotch following the final out, sending Oakland shortstop Miguel Tejada into a rage in the clubhouse moments later.------ LOL

"Derek Lowe is going to be paid back for that sign," Tejada screamed hysterically through the clubhouse, shouting expletives. "My kid is in the stands. He's going to pay."-----damn it aint that serious, sounds like he finna put a price on his head or somethin...

Oakland general manager Billy Beane escorted the crying Tejada away.------LOL

Tejada was later told that Lowe apologized.

"I feel better now that I hear he apologizes," Tejada said after calming down. "He was jumping around and making a scene. They have families up there, we have families up there."

Tejada is one of the most emotional players on the A's, and this was probably his final game with them because he can become a free agent.

"He takes everything personally, wins and losses, and plays with his heart on his sleeve," first baseman Scott Hatteberg said of Tejada. "He plays with everything he's got."

Other A's players were offended.

"That's extremely unprofessional," center fielder Chris Singleton said. "That's a shame that's the type of person he is. He was the only one who showed less than professionalism."-----shut up dude

Hatteberg spent seven seasons with the Red Sox and 11 in their organization. He and Lowe were teammates.

"To have that done is absolutely classless and unprofessional," Hatteberg said. "I'm disappointed having known him. I don't think it was aimed at (Tejada), it was aimed at us. I know we show emotion, but I can't think of anything we've done to show them up."----Im dissapointed having known him??? Dam the A's really taking this shit to heart

JUST THINK IF MULDER WAS HEALTHY, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A WHOLE NOTHER STORY BUT SHIT, AS LONG AS THE A'S HAVE THE BIG 3 THEY WILL BE IN THE PLAYOFFS EVERY YEAR.

YESTERDAY WAS A HEARTBREAKER CUZ OF HAVING BASESLOADED WITH ONE OUT IN THE NINTH, EVEN IF THEY WOULD HAVE WON THEY WOULD HAVE GOT MURDERED BY THE YANKEES CUZ HUDSON AND MULDER IS HURT, BUT IT SURE IS GREAT TO ALWAYS COME IN FRONT OF THE UNDERACHIEVING MARINERS.

Just think, if Eric Byrnes and Miguel Tejada remembered THE FUNDAMENTALS OF BASERUNNING FROM LITTLE LEAGUE, they would have won the other day and there would have been no game 5!

With no Mulder and no Hudson they wouldn't have gone very far anyway.

hahaha I seen that shit, it didn't look like no obscene shit, he just slapped his leg like a cowboy or something.

The Red Sox are hella unprofessional though, the shit they were doing when Lilly was pitching in Boston... That shit is in the rulebook, I think they were supposed to be ejected or something...? Cuz you can't alter your uniform and can't start chants and shit like that I think...? I forget but they were reading it out of the rulebook the other day.

oh ya and the Oakland fans have so much class.

i was there with my mother, sister and little brother and all these classless Oakland bastards sitting around us kept yelling out fuck this and fuck that, and pussy this and pussy that. we couldnt even watch the game in peace.

a few of them bastards even wanted to start fights with the red sox fans just because they were cheering when Manny hit the homer. and the sorry fans on the field near the red sox dugout started talking shit about Damon when he went down and almost cause a major problem with the Boston players on in the dugout.

the best part of the game was after every1 left and a couple thousands sox fans remained and were out there cheering the sox players who came back onto the field.

I'm talking about players, not fans. Fans are fans, the players should carry themselves a certain way and be penalized when they break the rules in the rulebook no matter what team they're on.

They need to get rid of Dye and give that money to Tejada if they're gonna keep him... Dye ain't pulling his weight to be making that kind of money!
