Once again stay out of grown folks business. He didn't take it the wrong way so why are you bitching about it? I wrote a "book" to set people like YOU straight. And if YOU read correctly you would have read that I answered him with:

for a group called NUTT-N Nice. The album features Turf Talk and Kinsmoke (members of The Federation). I mixed some of the tracks at my spot also. I have a song on the radio that I mixed and you can find it on dj backsides new mixtape (the one hosted by e 40) and on the turf tape vol 1 mixtape (www.95live.com). Top kat "IT DONT STOP". The song is UNMASTERED and still getting spins on kmel and some other bay station (just heard it the other day).

He asked who have I mixed for and I gave him TWO examples (could have given him more). One song is getting spins on the radio, is on two mix tapes blah blah blah. The other example was mixed at my studio AND a larger studio but hasn't been released yet. I'm sorry that I have to explain the obvious to you einstein. BTW I didn't do engineering work for 95 live and never made that claim. Speaking of 95 live why are you hating on 95 live? Sly does good work, Dj Rah does good work and Danny dee was a MAJOR factor in the B.A.R.S that just went down. I don't need them to send me a royalty check when I have corporations doing that.

Now let me ask YOU a question. Have you EVER received a royalty statement from ascap or bmi? Better yet who have YOU done beats for? I'm proud of your accomplishments keep up the good work. :dead:

:hgk:

ps the guy who funded the NUTTN NICE project is now involved with the cat who plans on releasing Vitals new album so I guess it might come out on his label. I got paid already so I'm not trippin. Ching Ching nigga!!!!!!!!!!!

@Press I did some music for a company that does development using Autocad and they needed music for a presentation. I had cd's floating around (not your average beat cd) and after they cashed me out for my work the cd was still floating around. It landed with capcom who needed some work, I was contacted, I met with who I was supposed to meet with (in san jose), did pre production at the crib, went into a larger studio to beef the shit up, delivered the goods, got it approved, got cashed out and walked away with a big smile and check.

I thought about doing porn music for west coast video when they first started out but I had too many second thoughts/guessing so I didn't go that route. Yeah the porn movies can bring in lots of skrill and the more genres you can compose/produce the better. I saw a flick where the intro music was the DEMO SONG that comes with REASON........LMAO!!! I think it was a jules jordan movie I can't even remember.

to heresy: how did u break into the video game industry, by doing music for em.... Ive always been interested in doing that as well as porno music, as funny as it may seems but that shit can bring it lots of skrill.
edit:

To Versatile: those beats on ur page wont load up for some odd reason.

also what advice can u give to aspring music producers such as myself?
I just tried the beats and they were working fine? Not sure what the problem was bro. I don't have advice that's either good or bad, the only things I can say are pretty much common sense. I just try to be humble to everyone I work with even though it is sometimes tough doing so and always be open to learning new things. Try to challenge yourself to avoid being one dimensional. Last but not least, make good relationships with good people. Stay away from artists that give you a negative vibe.

Heresy,
Thanks for the feedback. I know a thing or two about video game corporations and licensing tracks also. That's just not the direction I'm trying to go in. I too like dealing with corporations but not really too much on the video game side. I would try to go that route if I just wanted some more stability. However, I'm just trying to grind right now and make the best music I can to help me further my career as a producer and label CEO. I'm glad it has worked out for you though. The pay is excellent as an independent producer also, it's not easy though. You just have to have the right team behind you. Mike is doing well, he's got a lot on his plate right now. The TQ album was produced both by Mike and femi on the guitar. I wish you the best of luck at CAPCOM bro.

First of all the track was slap-n...secondly that video game, movie, t.v. game is tricky...got have a good hook up, got to get your up front license fee and some publishing...alot folks want all of your publishing and license fees leaving you with only writer creds...dame crooks

Thanks for the feedback Dame. I'm sure Heresy can speak on it more but I agree that it can be a little trickier with the whole licensing and sync processes involved for getting your slaps put on games, movies etc. It all depends on the company.

This is true BUT I would say it's easier pitching your music to a corporation and getting paid compared to finding a rapper who needs beats with a good budget. I did have a good hook up, was at the right place at the right time and happened to have some material that was already floating around. What you just mentioned about people wanting license fees and publishing is pretty much a "standard" anyway. I wouldn't sign over all my publishing anyway unless it was in the millions and I would make more money that way. I'm not attached to the music I make I simply see it as product to be sold.

I see more labels taking the artist for everything (publishing, mechanicals/license, etc etc etc) than I do "companies" that don't have an interest in music being sold as a product. Look at your average bay area rap label. How many of the label owners actually tell the artist "you need form s.r." or "you have to contact ascap or bmi and read what they offer and then decide"? Not many. What happens at the end of the day "oh that nigga ganked me yada yada yada".

Another thing to do is READ and understand HOW things work. My nephew has two songs on two different EA SPORTS games (2003 or 2004 madden and a hockey game I believe). I can tell you right now he saw $0.00 from it. No 8 cent mechanical, no up front loot....nothin. I can't go that route. I need my skrill and if the shit is being licensed/sold/distributed overseas I really need my bread. If you understand how the shit works (and dont appear to be wanting or greedy) and they NEED the product you can get your skrill.
