Need Help w. Photoshop

Hey Im tryin to do some hard text, I went to Graphics-world.com
but all the good one say you gotta have a black background. I aint feelin it I gotta put it on my cover so How do I make is transparent background or how do i make text with out black background. If any one could help thanks.

Also How can I put my stuff Up I want some critique

use wut ever background u want dogg, the tutorials are just suggestions........try it and see how it comes out
