A San Diego rap musician was arrested on allegations he kidnapped a woman in Southern California and held her captive at a residence in San Anselmo.
Charles Mitchell — also known as "Mitchy Slick" — was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of human trafficking, kidnapping, criminal threats, exhibiting a firearm and participating in a criminal street gang. He surrendered to the jail Tuesday afternoon in response to an arrest warrant.
Mitchell's bail is set at $1.5 million. He remained in custody Wednesday while the Marin County District Attorney's Office reviewed potential charges.
Mitchell, 40, was booked 11 days after sheriff's investigators executed what they described as a high-risk warrant search at a residence at 30 Oak Knoll Drive in the unincorporated neighborhood of Sleepy Hollow. Sheriff's Lt. Doug Pittman said Mitchell transported the alleged victim from Southern California and held her captive at the residence.
Pittman did not release the age of the woman, the length of time she was allegedly held or how sheriff's investigators became aware of the alleged kidnapping.
Pittman said an arrest warrant had been obtained for Mitchell at the time the property was searched, but he was not there and avoided arrest until Tuesday afternoon.
"How Mitchell is associated with the Sleepy Hollow residence or its legal owners is still under investigation," he said. "We are assuring residents living near the 30 Oak Knoll address that there is no threat to their neighborhood or community relating to this criminal investigation. Due to the nature of these serious crimes the identity of the female victim is not being disclosed for her safety."
A real estate agent listed as an owner of the property declined to comment when reached on her cell phone Wednesday afternoon.
Mitchell is a native of the Lincoln Park area of San Diego. He is one of about three dozen alleged members of the "Lincoln Park Bloods" gang who are named in a permanent injunction by the San Diego City Attorney's Office.
Among other prohibitions, they are barred from "standing, sitting, walking, driving, bicycling, gathering or appearing anywhere in public or in public view" in the Lincoln Park area.
Mitchell has recorded numerous solo albums, and collaborated on many others, on labels such as a Hoo-Bangin' Records. His albums include "Killafornia Handgunner 1," "Urban Survival Syndrome," "Trigeration Station" and "Feet Match the Paint." He is also the head of his own label, Wrongkind Records.
