Prosecutor: Bowling loss behind Antioch killing - SFGate

(01-03) 18:27 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- A man has been charged with killing a fellow bowler who teased him for losing a game to a woman at an Antioch bowling alley, a prosecutor said Friday.

Andre Woods, 24, of Pittsburg is accused of using a stool to fatally beat Kelvin Smith, 41, of Vallejo at Delta Bowl at 3300 Delta Fair Blvd. on Dec. 20.

The two men - who did not know each other - were at the bowling alley playing separately when Smith teased Woods for losing a game to a woman, said Mary Knox, a Contra Costa County deputy district attorney.

The two began shoving each other, authorities said. Woods then picked up a barstool and hit Smith with it, knocking him to the ground, Knox said.

Woods then grabbed a second barstool and beat the victim in the head and face, the prosecutor said.

Smith died at Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch.

Woods fled the scene but turned himself in several hours later, police said.
