Fat Tone's Murderer's Appeal Denied; Life Sentence Upheld

(AllHipHop News) The life sentence of a man convicted of murdering two other men who allegedly killed Bay Area rap legend Mac Dre, has been upheld.

Jason Mathis and rapper Andre "Mac Minister" Dow were sentenced to life in prison in July of 2008, for allegedly killing Kansas City rapper Anthony “Fat Tone” Watkins and his partner Jermaine “Cowboy” Akins.

Mathis was accused of carrying out the slayings with Mac Minister.

Prosecutors said the pair used AK-47s on their victims, in remote construction area on the outskirts of Las Vegas in 2005.

Watkins and Akins were lured to Las Vegas by unidentified parties, on a promise that they would get a chance to network and meet with Snoop Dogg, for a possible record deal.

On Friday (July 1st), the Nevada Supreme Court upheld Jason Mathis's conviction for killing the two men, in retaliation for Mac Dre's murder.

Lawyers for Mathis claimed that the certain statements and evidence entered into his original trial in 2005, was hearsay.

Akins' lawyers also claimed that there was insufficient evidence to justify the two counts of murder.

But the Supreme Court reviewed the original 2008 decision and upheld Akins' life sentence for the murder of Mac Dre.

In May, Mac Minister's appeal was thrown out and his life sentence was also upheld.

Mac Dre, born Andre Hicks, was killed in a drive-by shooting in 2004, as he drove in a van on U.S. 71, after a weekend performance in Kansas City.

He was 34-years-old.
