The Detroit Lions have agreed to send cornerback Dre' Bly to the Denver Broncos in exchange for running back Tatum Bell, tackle George Foster and a draft choice, believed to be a fifth-round pick.

Trades cannot become official until Friday, the first day of the league year.

Bly, a two-time Pro Bowl performer who earned a Super Bowl ring as a member of the 1999 St. Louis Rams, did not fit well in the Tampa 2 defensive scheme employed by second-year head coach Rod Marinelli and new defensive coordinator Joe Barry. Thus the Lions granted Bly and his agent, Kennard McGuire, permission to seek a trade two weeks ago

Yeah no doubt, plus now Jim Bates has two corners he can leave on islands, so he can come up with some nice blitz packages and get some pressure on the QB'S.

I think he'll help the Lions. He just wasn't a Zone blocking lineman. He needs a GOD/GOL type o-line system.

This trade helps both teams. The Lions get a decent backup in Bell and a starter in Foster, provided he can pull his head out of his ass. More than anything the Lions get major cap relief.

Broncos rid themselves of "dead-weight" and instantly get help from the loss of Williams.

I mean he's no jarmarcus russell, I mean shit Russell will have more pro bowls than him in 3 years right?

Dude Bly is the perfect #2 opposite Champ. He no longer has to go against the other teams #1 wr's he will be facing off aganst thier #2 or #3 wr.

You like to talk so much about coaching and schemes right....BLY WAS IN THE WRONG SYSTEM.

Also this will let us blitz alot more....not good news for russell, and free's up a draft pick or 2 now we dont have to worry about that position in the draft.

IT'S CALLED TRADING FOR NEED!!!! DRAFTING FOR NEED!!!!

We just made a move to help with other moves in trades and draft...we aren't stayig put to get russell but not address other needs!

Dre Bly will be good as a number two.. he just can't run the zone and that's why he had a very bad year last year.. He'll pick it up in man to man coverage..

The Lions got more than I thought they would for Bly since they said they would cut him anyway.. I think they would've cut him today, actually, but a few teams wanted him and were willing to give up stuff for him.

They got somebody and that's all that matters.. They were gonna cut him. But they ended up getting a late pick and two decent players.. But, yeah, Tatum won't do shit with this team besdies fumble and get hurt since they have no o-line.

tatum may be ok. He is fast which will help him in the dome.

here he just cant cut on grass, fumbles too much adn seemed to trip himself every ther play.

Homie Dre Bly iz far from overratted. Bly & Bailey together iz gonna be a muthafucka. That waz a genius move by Denver. They don't need Bell. He waz cool but Shanahan can throw Jermaine Dupri in @ RB & he'll get 1,000 yds. Mike Bell wasn't what Shanahan claimed he waz but he'll just draft a back in like the 3rd or 4th round & that dude will get 1,000 yds easy
