Ex-NFL Player Is Sought in 2 Alleged Attacks

San Diego police are seeking former National Football League running back Lawrence Phillips in connection with a domestic violence case in which they say he attacked his girlfriend twice, once choking her into unconsciousness.
According to authorities, the first assault, in which the 28-year-old woman was allegedly choked, occurred Aug. 2 at her home in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. Police said the second assault took place 11 days later when Phillips confronted the woman at a party in the Kearny Mesa area.

In both cases he left the scene before officers could arrest him, police said. A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to his whereabouts.
Phillips, 30, is also wanted on a felony warrant from Los Angeles in an unrelated domestic violence case, police said Thursday.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 220-pound Phillips has indicated that he will not surrender peacefully, San Diego Police Lt. Kathy Healey said. She added that he was in "outstanding physical condition" and was considered dangerous.
The former University of Nebraska star was drafted sixth overall in 1996 by the St. Louis Rams despite pleading no contest to a charge of domestic violence. He was released for insubordination in 1997 after 25 games with the Rams.
Phillips signed with the Miami Dolphins later in the 1997 season, but was released after pleading no contest to hitting a woman in a nightclub.
He was the top offensive player in NFL Europe in 1999 after setting league records for rushing and touchdowns with the Barcelona Dragons. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 1999, but was released for missing a practice.
