2K Sports announced on Monday, that they have signed promoter Don King to help develop a new boxing video game to challenge the popular Fight Night franchise by EA Sports (Electonic Arts).

The game, called Don King Presents: Prizefighter, will be shipping for the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS in Spring of 2008.

"The combination of real-life fight scenarios, story-driven gameplay and photo-realistic graphics will set this title apart from the competition," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. "Our goal has always been to deliver the most engaging and realistic titles, and Don King Presents: Prizefighter will exceed these expectations. Based on the game's innovative features and high-profile fighters, this title will be a 'must have' for any sports gamer."

Don King, seems to be very excited about the new title.

"In all my years working in professional boxing, I have never seen anything come as close to creating the thrill, the intensity, the courage and the spectacle of the sport,” King said. “Don King Presents: Prizefighter is more than a game - it is a glimpse at what life is like in and out of the ring for these incredible athletes.”

This game sounds better and better:

The main theme of Prizefighter's single-player career mode plays off of King's statement: It's about the choice you have to make between glory and money. Would you rather hit the gym to train for your next fight or work on enhancing your notoriety? The former can help get you a win, but the latter will line your pockets with fatter purses. You'll have to decide what's more important to you. As you progress through the game, your story will be told in a SportsCentury-style documentary, with real video clips from King (see picture, below) and other famous names from the fight scene.

Aside from the standard create-a-fighter option, Prizefighter offers up to 30 active boxers and 10 classic pugilists, including Larry Holmes, Ken Norton and the Cinderella Man, James Braddock. HBO announcers Emmanuel Stewart and Jim Lampley provide the play-by-play. The online play offers the unique twist of allowing players to set up their own gym where they can fight with up to eight of their own created boxers or any of the legendary fighters from the game.

The goal isn't just to create a good fighting game -- it's to create the total package of an immersive story framed around a fight career.

"You can't find a better reality show than boxing, the trials and tribulations a fighter goes through," King said.

King and 2K Sports can only hope that it's that same excitement that transfers to Prizefighter and makes it a worthy contender for EA's Fight Night franchise.

yeah looks pretty good, but I just hope the game play is tight.

They haven't released the list of fighters yet, but the ones that are confirmed are:

Active: 4/40
Kelly Pavlik
Joe Calzaghe
Vic Darchinyan
Ponce De Leon

Legends: 3/10
Larry Holmes
Ken Norton
James Braddock

HBO Emmanuel Stewart and Jim Lampley as announcers.

Hopefully Mayweather will be on here, sucked that he wasn't on fight night.

Damn, that shot looked clean too. I don't know...EA better be worried, because 2K comes correct with the sports games. Nice fighter list too...plus they got Lampley and Steward on there commentating.

I wonder if they're going to have anyone from the FN series...or will they have licensing issues....?

I could care less about Don King, but shit...this might be the one !
