Faced with sub-par TV ratings, DREAM is responding by giving Japanese MMA fans what they need — complete and utter insanity. The lineup for DREAM.9 (May 26th, Yokohama, Japan) is already stacked with the quarterfinals for their featherweight GP, the middleweight title fight between Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, and a lightweight feature between Gesias Cavalcante and Tatsuya Kawajiri. But according to Nightmare of Battle, the event will also host the first round of DREAM's new "Super Hulk Tournament - World Superman Championship" open-weight grand prix. Are you sitting down? Good. Because these matchups may shock you...

Bob Sapp (6'6"/323 lbs.) vs. Ikuhisa "Minowaman" Minowa (5'9"/191 lbs.)
Jan “The Giant” Nortje (6'11"/329 lbs.) vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (5'11"/205 lbs.)
Gegard Mousasi (6'1"/215 lbs.) vs. Mark Hunt (5'10"/287 lbs.)
Hong Man Choi (7'2"/327 lbs.) vs. Jose Canseco (6'2"/240 lbs.)

It's airing live on HDNet. Here's the full card.

DREAM Middleweight Championship
Ronaldo "Jacare" De Souza vs Jason "Mayhem" Miller

Dream LW Championship Eliminator
Tatsuya "Crusher" Kawajiri vs Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante

DREAM Featherweight Grand Prix Quarter-Finals
Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto vs Joe Warren
Masakazu Imanari vs Bibiano Fernandes
Yoshiro Maeda vs Hiroyuki Takaya
Hideo Tokoro vs Abel Cullum

Super Hulk Grand Prix First Round
Gegard Mousasi vs Mark Hunt
Bob Sapp vs Minowaman
Sokoudju vs Jan "The Giant" Nortje
Hong Man Choi vs Jose Canseco

The return of Kid, JZ vs. Crusher, Mayhem vs. Jacaré, AND a super heavy tourney?! This is going to be fucking AWESOME!

Andrew Simon: HDNet will air DREAM.9 live in North America

On the same day the Japanese-based DREAM organization announced a hotly debated eight-man open-weight tournament at DREAM.9, HDNet Fights CEO Andrew Simon put some icing on the cake.

Simon, a guest on today's edition of MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio), broke the news that DREAM.9 will air live on HDNet.

Past DREAM events have aired on muti-day tape delays, but Simon said HDNet will air the May 26 event live from Japan.

DREAM.9 takes place at the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan.

Even prior to today's open-weight tournament news, DREAM.9 featured a star-studded card with Gesias "JZ" Cavalvante vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri in the main event and a co-headline bout between Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza vs. Jason "Mayhem" Miller for the vacant DREAM middleweight title.

DREAM.9 also features the second round of the organization's featherweight grand prix. Bouts include Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto vs. Joe Warren, Yoshiro Maeda vs. Hiroyuki Takaya, and Bibiano Fernandes vs. Masakazu Imanari.

And today, the organization announced a "Super Hulk Tournament" with notables such as former MLB player Jose Canseco vs. 7-foot-2 Hong Man Choi, Mark Hunt vs. DREAM middleweight grand prix winner Gegard Mousasi, and 350-pound Jan Nortje vs. PRIDE/UFC vet Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

Simon said HDNet has the option to air events live or via tape delay on HDNet. While the all-high-definition cable station usually shies away from airing weekday Japanese events live (because they air in North America in very early-morning hours), he said the interest in DREAM.9 convinced HDNet President Mark Cuban and him to air the event live.

"Who doesn't want to see Jose Canseco take on Hong Man Choi in the U.S. in the middle of the night?" Simon joked. "We have over 34 events on air this year. One thing we're committed to is bringing events live when we can."

I remember him getting his ass kicked on one of those celebrity boxing shows.

The same one where Sticky Fingaz got his ass whooped by some rocker dude.

I read in his book that he's been training muay thai for hella years. What that actually translates too, who knows.

Haha @ Muay Thai black belt.

On a side note:

Val Sikahema actually was a Golden Gloves fighter back in the day, and lost the national championship to future hall of famer and ATG Sugar Ray Leonard.

I wouldn't mind this retarded ass tournament if it didn't lock up Mousasi who's been on a roll for the next couple of months because he's "competing" in this retarded ass excuse for a tournament. At least the rest of the fights on this card should be dope.
