Kimbo would shoot on him first chance he got, he's not an idiot lol. He did the same thing against Mercer.
Someone like Cro Cop or Pat Barry would be good since they probably wouldn't bother taking it to the ground and their kicks would somewhat even up the standup.
Kimbo also got KO'd by a jab by that homosexual guy in like 8 seconds so I'm thinking Toney would always have a punchers chance against a china chinned guy like that

How sick would it be to watch James Toney just slip, parry and evade punches and kicks using his phelly shell? I wonder if he'll fight at heavyweight or try to cut down to 205?

btw I don't consider signing James Toney a freak show move. How many times has the UFC signed bjj world champions just based on their grappling credentials alone? Or division 1 college wrestlers who can't do shit but take someone down and lay on them? James Toney was a real athlete one of the best boxers of our time. Kimbo is a different story...

Apparently UFC removed Kimbo vs Mitrione from their site. Could Kimbo be first for James Toney? Lol this should make a lot of money for the UFC. I don't think Kimbo is dumb enough to stand and trade with Toney. He should have enough weapons in his arsenal by now to take Toney down and finish him.

lol Toney has been calling out "Simba spice" too.

I find it funny how many people are going crazy over this signing. I can't imagine a 41 year old, out of shape, hasn't won a legitimate fight in years (no Oquendo doesn't count that decision was terrible) going into a game he's never played getting so much attention.

Opponent Level Will Factor Into Sanctioning For James Toney's Debut

When James Toney will make his UFC debut remains to be seen, but the multi-time boxing champion already has plenty of fighters interested in facing him, from former UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture to relative newcomer Kimbo Slice.

Because of his pro boxing background, Toney will present a fascinating test case when the UFC matches him up and a state athletic commission goes through the process of approving an opponent. MMA Fighting spoke to one of the men who could be faced with the task, Nevada state athletic commission executive director Keith Kizer, on what potential roadblocks the UFC could expect to face in setting up a potential bout.

Like any MMA newcomer, Toney will have to go through the process of applying for an MMA fighter's license. Assuming his license is approved -- which Kizer added, is no given for someone who's failed two steroids test in recent years -- the next step will come when the UFC submits a potential opponent to the commission for approval.

While Kizer wouldn't address specific possibilities like Couture or Slice, he said the commission would take into account Toney's boxing skills and lack of experience in MMA in determining if a proposed matchup is worthy of sanctioning.

"Generally speaking, you look at the matchup, compare the two fighters and try to make sure it's a non-mismatch," he said. "There's almost always a favorite, someone favored to win the fight. It's not easy to get a 50/50 fight. But the question is how far apart are the proverbial odds? If it's too great a distance, it's a no."

Kizer said that it would be possible that the commission could attend a Toney training session to see what type of MMA skills he possesses in addition to boxing in order to determine his true level of competitiveness. In addition, he said the commission is open to hearing all the pertinent information the promotion and Toney's camp can provide about him.

He cited as an example a Feb. 2007 bout proposed by PRIDE, pitting longtime veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira against relative newcomer Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. At the time, Nogueira was an overwhelming favorite, and upon first inspection, it didn't seem like an acceptable match.

Kizer then spoke to Sokoudjou's coaching staff at Team Quest, who filled him in on Sokoudjou's training and extensive judo background. After confirming the facts, Kizer approved the bout, and Sokoudjou went on to pull off one of the biggest upsets in MMA history.

That said, Kizer admitted it was likely that the commission would more readily approve a Toney matchup with a lesser experienced opponent than one with years of experience.

"I don't want to pre-judge anything, but that's probably a fair statement," he said. "But talking about specific fighters, that's
unfair for me to discuss. We'll let the fans speculate. If they come across my desk with a request for a fight, I'll take a look at it, but I don't want to pre-judge anything."

Rumor:

James Toney will make his MMA debut April 17th against Kimbo Slice at Vanderbilt Arena in Tennessee. Mike Swick will fight Matt Serra in the main event.

The fight would air on Spike TV, according to the rumor.

With the Strikeforce card happening the same night, in the same state, this constitutes the first real nuclear bomb that Dana White and Zuffa would drop on their organization, should it be true.

I had Yahoo's Kevin Iole on my radio show just a few minutes ago, and asked him about the rumor. His response: "I think you hit a home run with that one, that's what I've been hearing."

More to come....

I'm on the air until midnight Pacific, feel free to listen at khtk.com, or call in at 1-800-920-1140. Follow me on Twitter @carmichaeldave

Thanks all...
oh damn Toney might be fighting very soon!! This dude is legit and is close friends with Dana White.

kind of hard to tell what'll happen because Strikeforce has the option to move their fights back a week to counter the WEC PPV. UFC might just be bluffing to get a little news in a week where Strikeforce and Dream have had a lot of big announcements.

Long article on James Toney vs Anderson Silva

James Toney To Try MMA: Bring On Anderson Silva At 205 If He's So Bad

Apparently James Toney did not get the memo. Boxing talent, and make no mistake he has a world class boxing history, is not enough to make one a mixed martial artist.

Boxing, or striking as it is more commonly known in MMA, is but one of a plethora of tools necessary to not only compete, but keep from being embarrassed.

To take that a step further, if you have absolutely no fights in the game you're choosing, maybe running your mouth rampant disrespecting those who make up the sport may be a bad idea.

Toney obviously has an appreciation for MMA as a sport, but his dramatization of how he will impact it is, to be quite honest, way off the deep end.

Kevin Iole quoted Toney as saying, "Boxing is still my main focus, but them guys are a bunch of (expletives) and they don’t want to fight. So I called Dana after he put his foot in his mouth and I’m going to prove he doesn’t know what he’s talking about."

Before he actually signed with the UFC, Percey Crawford of Fight Hype quoted Toney as spewing this garbage also. "Dana White is embarrassing MMA. He says all this (expletive) about how a boxer wouldn't last against a MMA fighter and now hes (expletive) scared to put his guys in there with me. I would beat all of their asses."

Now I don't know about the rest of the MMA world but that sounds like very tall talk from a guy who called out a man who really still isn't a mixed martial artist in the pure sense of the term, for the fighter he wants first.

With all the fighters out there to call out, and beat their ass as he so eloquently put it, Kimbo Slice is more of a boxer/striker than anyone. So if you want to prove how your hands and capabilities will hold up in the sport of MMA, why would you call out a man who has little to virtually no experience in the sport?

What point does that prove? So you might beat up a backyard brawler, I for one won't be sold on your ability to be a contender in MMA if that is the best you can do Mr. Toney.

I say if you're so very bad as you say you are, and again we all know and respect your credentials in the sweet science, then why don't you really step up to the plate and beat the ass of someone that will give you some credibility in the realm of MMA?

There just so happens to be a lethal striker roaming the confines of the Octagon who would probably be more than happy to oblige your attempt to prove how dangerous you will be in this sport.

There just so happens to be a guy who fancies himself a solid enough striker that he aspires to cross over the other direction to boxing when his career comes to an end in the UFC.

There just so happens to be a guy that represents all aspects of MMA, and is a proven mixed martial artist that would truly be able to introduce you to the broad spectrum of combat arts that is MMA.

There just so happens to be a guy that quite frankly James Toney would beat your ass if you dared get in the cage with him. That guy is a fella by the name of Anderson Silva.

Your a little soft in the middle judging from where I am sitting, so a drop to 205 wouldn't hurt your chances in the sport. So why not lose a few pounds, because your a tiny heavyweight by our standards, and invite a true mixed martial artist to join you for an MMA fight.

And lets face it, if you want to back up all that smack that's been flying out of your mouth, it's not going to happen against a cat who has five fights total in the sport. Please, are you serious, that's how you plan to prove how truly bad ass you are against a mixed martial artist?

Sounds like catering to me, if you're really hungry come on over from the kiddie table to the big boy table and take a bite.

A guy like Silva is the test you need, and a big enough star in the sport that if your really all you say you are, you can grab that lightning in a bottle and shock the world.

No one else can seem to beat him, go ahead do the homework, so why not bring that ass beating talent of yours and step up to the plate and swing for the fences?

He can meet you at 205, and if I know the Spider like I think I do, he will be more than happy to stand with you and pick you apart like a soft doughy cinnamon bun. Then you can finally learn what you obviously are missing.

This ain't boxing baby, this isn't two men standing on their feet exchanging blows without any regard for the 15 other types of attacks a guy like Silva will throw at you, this is MMA, recognize it and respect it.

If you don't give respect, someone might just have to teach you a little. And I for one wont hold my breath for Kimbo Slice to be the connoisseur necessary to explain the finer points of this world class sport to you.

Anderson Silva on the other hand, will outright take you and your overblown ego to school my friend. Anderson Silva can draw you a map. Anderson Silva will eat your lunch and take your lunch money while he is at it. He is the challenge you need to prove you're all you say you are and are capable of in this sport.

So you want to be a mixed martial artist, how about you start by actually picking a fight with a genuine representative of the sport, mmmkay. Then maybe the rest of us will take you seriously.

Maybe when you do that you we can put some more stock in that hot air you have been losing through that gaping hole in your face, disrespecting this sport and those who make it what it is.

MMA will be here long after you are done running your game, so why not make your stint in it count? Be a man, fight a dangerous mixed martial artist or shut up, take your pick.
