I was confused about this part. I thought Mance Rayder had like 100,000 men plus giants and other such secret weapons, and meanwhile Stannis runs up on him and Mance looks shook and he has no more than 50 randos with him all of a sudden?? Where were the 100k dudes, where were the giants?

::.
I haven't read what happened in the books either, but I know they literally didn't have the money for anything more than what they showed. I would imagine in the books it must have been a big battle.

I don't remember the exact numbers but a lot of the 100k is women and children. There's going to be plot holes all over the place when they want to use stuff that happened in the book without actually setting any of it up. So, they were really disorganized and most of the clans were fighting with each other half of the time. When Stannis showed up and Mance couldn't give any orders they were routed pretty fast because none of the wildlings know how to fight against someone who's organized. Most of the giants left after Mag died, since he was their king and there's only a handful of them left living at this point.
*book spoiler* Mance has a wifey that's giving birth while Stannis shows up and he tries to make a counter-charge but gets his ass kicked and only stops fighting because of his son that's being born.

Yeah maybe my misunderstanding. I thought they had said an army of 100k men, not just 100k people.

I was envisioning 100k dudes like the cannibals and the crew that sacked Moletown with a few giants thrown in for good measure.

Yeah true. The woman beating the hound in combat really was the more inconceivable part for me.
If they would have shown him weakened more from that infected neck wound it would have been more belieable. I don't think he was in very good condition. I honestly figured he was about to die from that.

It was a good ass fight though.

yeah if you want to know how everyone fights from shit in the books it's something like this

god tier: arthur "the sword of the morning" dayne (deceased, but GRRM said he's probably the best swordsman in the entire story)
a tier: barristan selmy, jaime lannister w/ 2 hands, the mountain, the hound, king robert, oberyn martell, garlan tyrell (Loras' big bro, he's written out of the show so they might just make Loras a mega badass)
b tier: khal drogo, syrio forrel, loras tyrell, qhorin halfhand, blackfish tully, mance rayder. (next season- areo hotah, victarion greyjoy, lyn corbray)
c tier: thoros of myr, beric dondarrion, brienne of tarth, bronn, tormund giantsbane, bronze yohn royce, greatjon umber, rhaegar targaryen
d tier: ned stark, jon snow, robb stark, jorah mormont, daario, stannis
shit tier: ramsay bolton, arya, 1 hand jaime, joffrey, reek, hodor

i can happily shit on any media i take in and move on with my day, how long does it take to type a few sentences on a thread that stays on the front page of a forum you frequent? plus to me the show already had dips and spikes in quality, mainly the dip in season 2. it got better with 3, this might have been another dip but that doesn't mean next season will be the same. something you have to consider on a show that plays musical chairs with directors.

my question to you is, do you want this thread to be an endless positive feedback loop? will any dissenting opinion affect your personal enjoyment? you guys get so precious about shows in these threads lol.

there will always be comparisons between the book, get used to it.

Of course not, but what i DONT want to see is this: "well, in the book THIS happened, not this. Thats stupid. I cant believe they would do such a thing!".

Guess what? THIS AIN'T THE BOOK. FUCK THE BOOK.

Why do you think most reviews, on blogs and online, are separated for those who have read the series, and those who haven't? Because of caucus shit like in this thread. You get people trying to talk about the episode, and some book head comes in and starts dumping on it becuase it didn't go word for word with the book. Not constructive to the thread.

Having opinions on the SHOW, and how it relates to the SHOW? yes! Positive and negative feedback please! But dragging the book into it just drags the the thread down. News flash: every book-to-screen adaption has been different...its called HOLLYWOOD FUCKERY. It is what it is.

Gotta co-sign with F @Fucky McFuckerson . Sometimes I see a post by someone and even before reading it I'm thinking "oh great hear it comes!"

Now, when someone posts some cool background information or whatever from the books that viewers wouldn't know, and maybe that helps us understand whatever the fuck just happened or is going on, or just some random history or whatever, that's cool stuff. I can appreciate stuff like that (only time I wouldn't is if it had spoilers or implied something that hasn't happened yet).

But it definitely is annoying when people bitch or complain that this didn't happen or this should have happened this way, etc. People just gotta realize the show isn't the books. Can't be. It's impossible. But at the end of the day, book reader or not, this show is dope otherwise you wouldn't be watching. So just try to ignore the difference, at least in this thread, and enjoy the show for what it is. There are plenty of online discussions regarding the books that thousand's of people partake in. If the urge is that strong you can always post elsewhere when it comes to the books.

The books sold millions of copies and were best sellers TWENTY YEARS AGO lol. Theyre popular for a reason. I like what happens, how it flows, how the characters develop. So when you take what I like and change the formula and all these things above I'm going to say something, especially when you take best seller writing and substitute shit tier writing instead

Is it any coincidence all the best scenes are basically direct translations from the book, and the shit tier scenes are all made up? Ramsay and whatever they changed asha greyjoys name to somehow abandoning her ironborn ways, trudging across land to try and rescue theon then that whole awful fight scene then asha warping back to the boat when the dogs got loose lol. Plus the brienne fight, hotpie magically being In the very first inn she visits and pointing her exactly to where arya is, a bunch of other awful shit

My point is when they stick to the books everybody's happy and its a great show, and everytime they deviate its been fuckin awful and looks so bad

The only time they deviated and it was awesome that I can remember off top is taking the baby to the white walker circle. That was pretty cool... hasn't been in the books yet and was nice. But honestly I would say it was probably fed directly from martin... and its probably a direct translation from a scene in the winds of winter

Dont get me wrong I love the show as much or more than the books (shout out emilia clarke).I think I'm just pissed mostly because its over til april and that faggot martin isn't even close to being done with TWoW. Its becoming a more and more real possibility that the show will pass him and have to make shit up 100%. The writing for any original content so far has been not as good as the books with a few exceptions, so I have this anxiety of how it will all end.

In my mind jon snow and daenerys will wed as rulers of the 7 kingdoms, selmy will be captain of the kingsguard, stannis the mannis will be the hand of the king, and tyrion and varys will rule the council. Thats what I'm looking forward to.
