having trouble with art lesson from school

well we are on masks right now and the teacher gave us sum pictures to play with and learn.anyway i did the first pic she gave us and got all the way down to the last two steps with the second pic but i was stumped.

it's lesson 5 i'm sure.i'm stuck on the second pic with the mountain.

the last step got me.i can't understand whut to do.

it says "now load gradient by dragging and droping into the selection button"

whut got me is whuts a selection button???

if you can finish that practice lesson show me whut the finished product is and tell me how you did it.

I think those directions are wrong. The only difference I see is a thin line that goes across the middle of the picture.

the mask selection button is the circle lookin button which splits the screen i havent checked your lesson plan but the selection mask button is in the layers pallette near the new layer, lil trash been to delete layers once you layer splits in two you click your gradient button any selection you make you can use your marquee tool and mask away, i hope this helps you out toop,
