Sequels — Guitar Hero 5 and Call of Duty 6 — of Activision’s popular series are planned for release in 2009. This after the next sequels Guitar Hero 4: World Tour and Call of Duty 5: World at War will be released on October 27th and in November 2008, respectively.
Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith announced that the publisher’s 2009 lineup will include “multiple new Guitar Hero SKUs [and] an all new Call of Duty [due to our] leapfrog studio strategy.”
This “leapfrog studio strategy” refers to the company’s practice of rotating development responsibilities. Series creator Infinity Ward has lead Call of Duty 1 (2003), Call of Duty 2 (2005) and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007), while Treyarch has produced Call of Duty: United Offensive (2004), Call of Duty 2: Big Red One (2005), Call of Duty 3 (2006) and the upcoming Call of Duty 5: World at War
