OUTRAGE OVER ESPN GIVING BRUCE JENNER ‘COURAGE’ AWARD OVER LAUREN HILL

The Internet sears with outrage over ESPN’s bestowal of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award on the Athlete Formerly Known as Bruce Jenner rather than giving it to Lauren Hill, the utterly courageous 19-year-old woman who battled inoperable brain cancer while playing basketball for Mount St. Joseph’s.

Before she died in April, Hill had achieved a dream of her own, scoring the first and last basket when Mount St. Joseph’s defeated Hiram College 66-55 on November 2014. The courageous young woman, knowing she wouldn’t survive, decided to use her notoriety to raise money for cancer research; by last November, she had raised $1 million for DIPC Cancer Research.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still, whose 4-year-old daughter was battling cancer, tweeted:

Congrats Lauren Hill on raising 1 million dollars for DIPG Cancer research! Using your battle to raise awareness n money is an inspiration!

— Devon Still (@Dev_Still71) December 30, 2014

According to ESPN, Hill’s courage was superseded by Jenner’s decision to become a woman. ESPN announced on June 1 that it was honoring Jenner with the Ashe Award, and only belatedly announced on July 14 that it would offer a small tribute to Hill at the ESPY Awards. A producer for the program admitted that she and her staff, rather than any wider voting process, selected the former Olympian for the honor. On Wednesday, the resultant fury was exhibited on Twitter:

How the hell does Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner get the Arthur Ashe Courage Award over Lauren Hill?! Our society is a JOKE.

My pick for the #ArthurAsheCourageAward … I think many will agree. #LaurenHill https://t.co/0W1LCZLC81

Touching tribute to Lauren Hill. Makes the Caitlyn Courage “ratings grab” look even more pathetic !!

The Los Angeles Times reported that a possible reason for the honoring of Jenner derived from a deal between ABC and Jenner. ABC televised the ESPYs and Jenner had granted an exclusive interview to ABC’s Diane Sawyer in April regarding the gender transition Jenner was undergoing. The interview grabbed huge ratings.

ESPN is a joke in all regards. They are like the Fox News of the sports channels, always pushing their agendas.

The ESPYs have always been a joke though, completely meaningless. The Bruce Jenner is one of many examples. Hell, even they gave Rousey fighter of the Year over Mayweather just because she has a better image than Floyd with Floyd's domestic violence past and we know how ESPN is on a witch hunt to publicly crucify any and all men accused of laying a finger on a female since Ray Rice. I mean Rousey is great and all but did she beat a legendary future hall of fame fighter and all time great as accomplished as Pacquiao in the past year? Of course not. Floyd's win over Pacquiao is greater than everything she's accomplished in her entire past career and future. But whatever.

Rousey would bet the brakes off money
If she got punched in the face she'd be out cold.

But regardless of that silly argument, who beat the better opponents over the past year? Who had the bigger, more meaningful fights? Because that's what is supposed to determine Fighter of the Year. Not who you think would win in a head to head cross-sport fantasy matchup. I mean would Rousey beat Klitschko? No? Then Klitschko wins fighter of the year. Doesn't work like that thankfully.

Do you remember when the Williams sister's said they could beat any men rank 200 or under in tennis? People believed it.

What happened? Well the number 203rd in the world stepped up and beat them 6-1 and 6-2 and said he didn't try hard enough to keep it fun.

This is the guy that whooped them both:

This is what happens whenever women think they equal men and then someone calls them for their BS. We learn this all the time. There is a reason we don't have females in the NBA or N and then forget. It's why we don't see any females in the NBA or NFL and especially why men & women don't intertwine in combat sports. I don't know why people always fall for this stuff.

Dana White is just hyping her up that's all, most people can understand that so I wouldn't trip over the stuff he says.

Right now Rousey is the UFC's biggest star, so White is trying to convince the world this 135 pound female is the new "baddest man on the planet". One flush power shot from a MMA bantamweight or a boxer like Paulie Malignaggi knocks her out cold. But apparently some people eat this stuff up. They say she can beat grown men, bigger than her she spars heavyweights and beats them! And yet they aren't in any hurry in matching her up with Cyborg, so that right there should show you what their confidence in her is, yet people are so gullible they believe the lie that a woman could whoop professional male fighters larger than her.

And it's not just White either Joe Rogan says "she can beat 50% of the male BW out there," but not long ago Rogan was saying women fighting Fallon Fox (transgender) was unfair because of bone structure and strength differences between a man and a woman, he got all scientific on us really laid down his case thick that woman just can't compete with men. Rogan was saying Fallon (truly a male) would beat women fighters because it's really a man. What happen to that Rogan? Right, the hype machine is in full force now so that's gotta go.

Prior to her Feb. 28 title defense to Cat Zingano at UFC 184, Rogan said he believed Rousey 'might beat 50 percent' of the men that make up the UFC's male bantamweight division.

Well, as you might imagine, not everyone was thrilled with that take.

Count UFC flyweight contender Ian McCall among them.

Speaking with Rick Lee on Monday, McCall says he needs to have a chat with his buddy Joe.

"They say all these comparisons to her fighting men," said McCall. "Even like Joe [Rogan]. I need to have a conversation with Joe about it because she's not beating up a man. I'm sorry, it's not going to happen."

Despite Rousey actually competing one weight class higher, McCall doesn't think she could so much as throw him.

"A good man will not lose to Ronda Rousey," said McCall. "I could put a judo gi on, [she's] an Olympian. You're not throwing me. It's not going to happen. I will throw you on your head. Pretty simple. And you weigh more than me.

"I can't compartmentalize it. It doesn't make sense to me. I know it's all talk. They compare her to [former heavyweight boxer Mike] Tyson. She's dangerous, she's good. I get it, but it's just silly."

Rousey is currently ranked the No. 7 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC, but that's a bit high if you ask McCall.

I think ESPN is owned by NBC right? They keep pushing that liberal bullshit.
My thing is, they are a sports channel - they should keep to that instead of trying to make PC statements. I agree, the ESPYS are shit.

It's all about ratings for TV. They don't give a shit about kids with cancer.
