Brandon Marshall stabbed, sources say

Dolphins Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall has been stabbed with a knife by a woman in Miami and taken to a hospital, where he remained in intensive care after surgery Saturday morning, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The sources said Marshall was taken to Broward General Hospital by car, not ambulance, after 911 was called, and underwent surgery late Friday night for a stab wound to the stomach.

No vital organs were pierced in the incident, and doctors have told him that Marshall will be OK in two to three weeks, the sources said.

"This is a very difficult time for Brandon and family, thankfully he will make a full recovery," Marshall's agents, Kennard McGuire and Harvey Steinberg, said in a statement. "We simply ask that his privacy is respected."

Marshall wanted to come home from the hospital Saturday but doctors wanted to keep him there to guard against infection, the sources said.

Marshall, acquired from the Broncos last April to become Miami's biggest offensive threat, led the Dolphins in receiving yards in 2010 with 1,014 despite missing two games with a hamstring injury.

Marshall signed a four-year deal worth $47.5 million, with $24 million guaranteed, when he joined the Dolphins.

But the offseason headlines didn't stop at his trade and big contract for Marshall last year.

With the NFL's lockout looming even then, Marshall said in August he would attempt to play in the NBA if games were canceled.

"Not pursuing -- I'm going to be on an NBA team," Marshall said. "Seriously."

The NFL lockout entered its 43rd day on Saturday.

"There's not going to be any football," Marshall predicted in August. "If there's a lockout, I have to find a job. I figure the Nuggets will be a better choice because of the welcome home cheer I'll get -- a couple of boos at first. I'm gonna get with a basketball coach and get to work, prepare for the lockout."

A fourth-round draft pick by Denver out of Central Florida in 2006, Marshall was named to the Pro Bowl with the Broncos in 2008 and 2009.

But his top-flight performance was often overshadowed by turbulence in Denver.

Marshall was suspended by the team for the entire 2009 preseason after a series of behaviors detrimental to the team. The final straw came when a Denver television station filmed Marshall walking when his teammates were running, punting a football in protest and swatting away balls during a training-camp passing drill.

Marshall was also one of the instigators of the fight that led to teammate Darrent Williams' shooting death on New Year's Eve in 2006.

And Marshall's history of arrests includes disorderly conduct, drunken driving, and a number of incidents of alleged domestic violence.

Some dude on the Broncos is in stable condition after his ho stabbed em to.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-broncos-hunterstabbed

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP)—Denver Broncos defensive end Jason Hunter(notes) was stabbed in Detroit on Wednesday and taken to a local hospital for treatment. His agent said the wound wasn’t life-threatening.

Detroit Officer Dan Donakowski confirmed the 27-year-old Hunter was stabbed, but police didn’t have any additional information, including where the incident took place, who was responsible and Hunter’s condition. The hospital wasn’t disclosed.

WXYZ-TV in Detroit said Hunter was knifed in his left shoulder.

The Broncos released a statement saying the team was looking into the matter and hopes Hunter “makes a quick recovery,” but that out of respect for his privacy, it wouldn’t comment further.

It’s not clear how Hunter’s stabbing will affect his playing career.

Team doctors are in contact with the physicians who treated Hunter in Detroit, Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth said.

Hunter’s agent, Robert B. Walker tweeted, “I’ve spoken to my client Jason Hunter and it’s a very minor injury, just a few stitches. He’ll be fine. We thank you for your prayers.”

Walker did not return messages left by The Associated Press seeking more details of the stabbing, which came only days after police in Florida said Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall(notes), a former Broncos player, was stabbed with a kitchen knife by his wife, who said she was acting in self-defense.

Hunter’s stabbing is the latest difficulty to face the Broncos, who in recent years have dealt with the drive-by slaying of cornerback Darrent Williams, running back Damien Nash’s fatal heart attack and receiver Kenny McKinley’s(notes) suicide.

Last season, Denver linebacker D.J. Williams(notes) was stripped of his captaincy after his second drunken driving arrest and cornerback Perrish Cox(notes) was charged in a sexual assault case. Shortly after the season ended, running back Laurence Maroney(notes), whose contract is up, was arrested on guns and drug charges in St. Louis.

Hunter is a five-year pro who also has played for the Detroit Lions (2009) and Green Bay Packers (2006-08), whom he joined as an undrafted free agent after leading Appalachian State University to the Division I-AA national championship in 2005.

Hunter was a pleasant surprise at left outside linebacker last year in the Broncos’ 3-4 scheme that is being scuttled this season in favor of the traditional 4-3 defense under new coach John Fox. He had a career-high 47 tackles and three sacks, forced a fumble and recovered two, including one he returned for a 75-yard touchdown against Kansas City on Nov. 14.
