Peterson struggles to make weight, Quillin Heavy

The recurring theme in the Premier Boxing Champions series is that belts don’t matter. So far, making weight doesn’t seem to be a principle priority either.

Lamont Peterson avoided the embarrassment of missing weight, though even in shaving his lengthy beard still had to strip down to his birthday suit in order to make his contracted weight for Saturday's headliner versus Danny Garcia.

Peterson made the contracted 143 lb. catchweight limit on the second try after initially weighing in 0.2 lbs. over the limit. Garcia came in at 142.2 lbs. for his second straight catchweight bout.

Unbeaten middleweight Peter Quillin became the latest PBC fighter to miss the contracted weight for a fight on the newly developed series. The former titlist showed up more than a pound heavy for Saturday’s showdown with Andy Lee at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The contracted weight is the middleweight limit of 160 lbs.; Quillin, while ripped and in shape, registered at 161.4 lbs., while Lee came in under the limit at 159.4 lbs.

Under normal commission rules, Quillin will have up to two hours to shed the excess poundage, or else will be subject to a fine and the possibility of the bout being canceled.

Peter Quillin came in overweight at 161.4 pounds — and then remained overweight 90 minutes later at 160.6 pounds.

Lee-Quillin is now a non-title bout.

Fucking Quillin smh. This guy was saying Golovkin needs to move up to 168 when this guy himself has missed weight two times now and struggles almost every time to make weight. So regardless what happens now Andy Lee remains champion. Hope he wins now.

Are you surprised that a Haymon fighter doesn't make weight? PBC is a fucking joke. Haymon disrespects the sport of boxing and I'm the one with the problem here and shit
How the fuck is Haymon disrespecting the sport of boxing? The networks and organizations would pay a lot of good fighters PENNIES if it weren't for Al Haymon and you should be glad that he's taking boxing off these shit networks and putting it on regular tv.

And what about all the Haymon fighters that do make weight? What about all the non Haymon fighters who don't make weight? Yeah, this fool needs to STFU up about GGG moving up when he can't even cut 2 fuckin pounds to make weight for a fight that has been planned for some time now. But to blame Haymon for this? What's next Battle? You gonna blame him for cops shootin niggas in the back? For the drought in California? For ISIS/ISIL? For AIDS? For Ebola?

"Al Haymon deed it"

Lee wouldn't remain champion if he loses. If he loses the fight the title becomes vacant and the WBO would have to order a fight.

Lol u can be mad at Haymon for certain things but he didn't make Quillin miss weight. Haymon paid step aside money to Billy Joel Saunders who was mandatory to Andy Lee, just so Quillin could get a chance at winning back his title. Haymon losing money here off of Peter's mistake.

Is that what the WBO has said? Peterson kept his belt after getting knocked out by Mattysse at 141 pounds. That was the IBF though.
That fight was booked as a non title this wasn't. It's commonplace in title fights for it to be like that. I'd be extremely surprised if they let Lee keep his title unless it's a controversial decision win for Quillin.

Just like if Lee misses weight he gets stripped of the belt but if Quillin he gets the belt. If Lee wins it gets vacated.

I'm on my phone but I'm sure you could find it happened with Corrales/Castillo/Morales throughout the years. I know for a fact when Castillo missed weight and KOd Corrales that Popo fought for one of his vacant belts and someone else fought for the other.

2-0-Sixx @2-0-Sixx Of course I can be mad! If Haymon is losing money, how much extra per lb are they giving Lee for being over weight? And don't forget the $1.4 mill HAYMON made him cough up! Haymon doesn't care

2-0-Sixx @2-0-Sixx is right. WBO apparently has different rules, even though one the titles that was taken from Corrales was his WBO after getting KO'd by Castillo when he made weight and Castillo didn't. Such a dumb rule, title should definitely be vacated if Lee gets smoked.

How about that exploding ear?
You mean this beauty..

Showtime had some pretty good prospects on tonight too. Sergiy Derevyanchenko & Ievgen Khytrov & Frank Galarza all fought. Just got done watching the first two about to watch the Galarza fight.

Sergiy looks like the goods. Excellent amateur, blew through WSOB. I like him.

Did anybody watch the Chavez Jr. All Access after the Showtime card? lol. Shit had me lightweight laughing, interviewer was talking about how lazy he is in the gym, him pissing hot for weed, his dui. I know his dad is the legend but I could've swore Chavez SR. was fighting as much as they were talking to him lol.
