BRANDON RIOS TESTS POSITIVE FOR BANNED SUBSTANCE FOLLOWING LOSS TO MANNY PACQUIAO
By Ben Thompson | December 13, 2013

According to reports, former lightweight champion Brandon Rios failed the post-fight drug test following his lopsided unanimous decision loss to Manny Pacquiao last month. Evidently, Rios tested positive for the banned substance methylexanamine, a stimulant that can be found in dietary supplements and is commonly used to help lose weight.

"There was a little something in his urine after the fight,'' promoter Bob Arum explained. "It was something they [VADA] reported to the Chinese commission after the fight. He passed all the tests before that. It wasn't a steroid. It was probably something he took to make weight."

The news comes as a surprise considering that Rios was moving up in weight for the fight. No word yet on what type of fines and suspensions that Rios will face, but stay tuned as this story continues to develop.

Alex Ariza sucks balls! Good thing Manny let him go. but bad news as it can make Manny look like he was juicing.
Not really because what Rios was caught for was detected in the post fight standard urine test, which Pacquiao has always done for all of his fights. The random pre fight, blood testing was irrelevant to Rios' failed test.

Also what was detected wasnt steroids or "juice", looks like some shit to give you a bit of energy.

Schaefer wants Broner vs. Mayweather mega-fight

Richard Schaefer Golden Boy Promotions Broner Maidana Broner vs. Maidana marcos rene maidana floyd mayweather jr adrien broner (Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer isn’t content with his young star WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) slowly climbing his way to the top to become a mega pay-per-view star.

Schaefer wants to hurry it along by having Broner face the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) in 2014. But the thing is, Schaefer needs the boxing public to help him out by creating pressure on the two fighters to face each other in the ring, because both of them are good friends.

It’s almost like a father-son type of a relationship between Mayweather and the young 24-year-old Broner, who copies Mayweather’s fighting style – or at least he tries to.

“If I get that kind of pressure, and Mayweather gets that kind of pressure, and Broner gets that kind of pressure, then I think that’s when that fight has the chance of happening, Schaefer said to RingTV. “I think that it can happen when the fans are going to really, really demand it…The kind of pressure is going have to be on Mayweather and on Broner, like it was on us to get Mayweather and Canelo.”

It’s going to take a massive amount of pressure to get Broner to agree to fight Mayweather, because he seems a lot more reluctant to take the fight than Mayweather does. Broner must have a pretty good idea how that fight would wind up if he were to agree to it. He’s far too slow and immobile to be competitive with Mawyeather, and it might be a loss to one-sided for Broner that he would have a very difficult time moving forward afterwards with his career.

I think Mayweather would mess Broner up mentally by clowning him for 12 rounds, and beating him much worse than he did with his last two opponents Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Robert Guerrero. At least with those guys they could move around the ring and they had size going for them. Broner is just a short 5’7″ fighter who is basically a stationary guy with moderate had speed and power, and who doesn’t have the ability to move or throw a lot of punches.

There’s definitely some built in limitations with Broner that would result with him getting clowned by Mayweather. The only way Broner doesn’t get made to look ridiculous in that fight is if Mayweather has mercy on him and stays in 1st gear for the entire fight. If Mayweather shifts into 2nd and 3rd gears, we could have Broner end up like Victor Ortiz with him getting knocked out after attempting to foul out of frustration.

It would be definitely difficult for Broner to move on from a one-sided loss to Mayweather. He would no longer be seen as the next Mayweather, and his future opponents would use the Mayweather fight as a blueprint to beat Broner again and again.

Josesito Lopez defeats Mike Arnaoutis
December 14th, 2013 | Post Comment - 14 Comments

By Jim Dower: Former two time world title challenger Josesito Lopez (31-6, 18 KO’s) was able to overcome a shaky performance to defeat 34-year-old Mike Arnaoutis (24-10-1, 11 KO’s) by an 8 round technical decision on Friday night at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA. The final judges scores were 77-74, 77-74, 76-75.

The fight was halted due to a bad cut over the left eye of Arnaoutis. He had problems seeing out of the eye after suffering the cut from an accidental head-butt in the 8th round.

Josesito was knocked down in the fight once, and he did not look impressive at all. The light hitting Arnaoutis was able to catch Josesito many times in the fight with shots that snapped his head around. It seemed that if this had been an opponent with a little bit of power then we might have seen Josesito getting stopped again. He didn’t look nearly as solid as he was when he beat Victor Ortiz last year. It could be that Lopez’s stoppage losses to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Marcos Maidana took something out of him physically and mentally, because he doesn’t look like the same fighter anymore.

ALEX ARIZA SPEAKS ABOUT BRANDON RIOS POSITIVE TEST; QUESTIONS VADA'S PROFESSIONAL AND HANDLING OF SAMPLES
By Ben Thompson | December 13, 2013

"Robert received a phone call saying that it was just trace amounts, which generally means that it was just a very small, almost undetectable amount. I mean, it just seems very bizarre to me. We didn't do anything different. They tested us throughout the four weeks of camp. I just don't understand, to be honest with you...They brought in just a regular drinking glass, had Brandon pee in that, and then they had the cup sent for and Brandon poured it into the other cup...It just doesn't seem like a very sound outfit to me. It's not very efficient. I've told managers, promoters, and trainers I would never let them test my athletes the way I've seen how they handle their samples and everything," stated world-class Strength & Conditioning Coach Alex Ariza, who spoke about the recent news of his fighter, Brandon Rios, testing positive and shared his thoughts on VADA. Check it out!

BT: Alex, I'm sure everyone is mobbin' you out there in San Antonio. When did you get news about Brandon's positive test and, more importantly, how did it happen?

AA: Robert was the first one who told me about it and then we kind of sat down and we had to figure out what it was; some kind of over-the-counter stimulant or pre-workout dietary supplement. We really had no idea how. And then, you know, Robert received a phone call saying that it was just trace amounts, which generally means that it was just a very small, almost undetectable amount. I mean, it just seems very bizarre to me. We didn't do anything different. They tested us throughout the four weeks of camp. I just don't understand, to be honest with you.

BT: So it was just the post-fight sample that came up positive with these trace amounts? Everything else that VADA tested leading up to the fight was good?

AA: Yes, apparently that's exactly what had happened. You know, sitting and talking with Robert, we thought that things were a little odd. After the fight, VADA sent somebody to his [Brandon's] room and they didn't have the urine sample cups. They brought in just a regular drinking glass, had Brandon pee in that, and then they had the cup sent for and Brandon poured it into the other cup. Now you start to look at little things like that. Why would they have Brandon just pee in a regular drinking glass?

BT: I remember you made a similar comment about some of their practices when they took blood samples from Brandon while he was sitting next to the ring in the gym.

AA: Yeah, you know, like guys were having lunch right there; it was just never in a sterile environment. It was just out in the open. Again, I'm not really familiar with what that substance is. I don't know if it comes in energy drinks or something else; we'll have to get more details and find out.

BT: Was Brandon taking any different supplements that you normally don't use for any of your other fighters?

AA: No. We disclosed everything, which was just the regular vitamins that everybody else has taken over the years. For six years, we never had anything like that. Again, when you say trace amounts, there was just such a minimal amount that I just don't understand. They just had tested Brandon the week before that. I mean, a dietary supplement? Obviously the FDA hasn't outlawed it or anything like that, so if it's a legal thing that comes over the counter, I just can't imagine; I don't know if it comes in those energy drinks or any of those kinds of things. I just don't know.

BT: When I heard it was some kind of weight loss supplement, it took me by surprise because you guys really didn't have any problems with the weight. I mean, I remember skyping with you guys like the night before the weigh-in and everything seemed good to go.

AA: I know. He didn't have any problems. You know, it's kind of funny, but Richard Schaefer came up to me and said, "Obviously it's a witch hunt." He goes, "I've never trusted any of those people that are dealing with VADA or Victor Conte." In his opinion, he didn't find them to be a very professional outfit, so that's why he uses USADA. To their credit, USADA over the last four weeks with Maidana have been very professional. They do things very discreetly in a very confined and sterile area. They've been doing it for years, so. I just don't put a lot of trust into what has happened and what's transpired. I think it just seems very odd. Look at the timing of it, you know, right before Maidana; it's so transparent what they're trying to do. Again, it wasn't steroids, it wasn't PEDs; I've had a clean record for six years. Now, all of sudden, you deal with VADA, who I've had so many issues with. They've not been very structured. You know, Victor Conte's been involved, Gabriel Montoya, people that don't have the education or credentials to be involved with it. It just doesn't seem like a very sound outfit to me. It's not very efficient. I've told managers, promoters, and trainers I would never let them test my athletes the way I've seen how they handle their samples and everything.

SAN ANTONIO -- Keith Thurman will defend his interim welterweight title against Jesus Soto Karass in the co-feature Saturday night at the Alamodome (Showtime, 8 ET), and, although Thurman has given respect to Soto Karass as a serious opponent, he also has his mind on what he wants next.

Thurman would like to face Adrien Broner, who is set to defend his welterweight belt against Marcos Maidana in the main event. As the interim titleholder in the same organization that recognizes Broner as its full titleholder, Thurman is Broner's mandatory challenger.
Thurman would like the fight. He used to have Paulie Malignaggi on his mind, but then Broner outpointed Malignaggi to win the title in June.

"Paulie was on my mind due to that title, but when Adrien Broner took it, then that makes me look forward to stepping into that ring with 'AB' in 2014," Thurman said. "A lot of fans want that fight, and I want what the fans want."

Still, Thurman said he isn't looking past rough, tough Soto Karass, who is coming off an upset knockout of former titlist Andre Berto in July, on the same card on which Thurman stopped Diego Chaves to win the interim belt.

"I think he is a highly [underestimated] fighter," Thurman said. "He is 120 percent hard work and dedication. He says he has a new passion for the sport, and I believe him. He has been training hard in camp, and I am not underestimating him. I am looking forward to a tremendous fight on Saturday night."
