Broner wants Pacquiao fight: Can this bout me made?
Boxing news published November 26, 2012 | 15 Comments

broner23 boxingBy Rob Smith: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner let HBO analyst Max Kellerman know last Saturday night that the fight that he wants next is against Manny Pacquiao in early 2013, saying “There’s a fight that can happen – me and [Manny] Pacquiao.” The interview took place before the Andre Berto vs. Robert Guerrero fight, which Broner attended in order to see his friend Berto fight.

A fight between Broner and Pacquiao would appear to be one that likely will never get made due to the two fighters not being from the same promotional stable. Normally this probably wouldn’t matter, but in this case it does because Pacquiao fights for Top Rank and Broner for Golden Boy Promotions. But perhaps the biggest reason why a fight between Broner and Pacquiao can’t get made right now is because Pacquiao is a proven pay per view star, whereas Broner has yet to establish himself as a PPV fighter.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum would be doing Broner and Golden Boy Promotions a huge favor by agreeing to match Pacquiao up with Broner at this early stage of Broner’s career. It would be an interesting fight because of Broner’s resemblance to Floyd Mayweather Jr. when fighting, and the fight would definitely do well in terms of money.

The HBO 24/7 series would be interesting with Broner being involved because he’s got a lot of charisma and he’d no doubt interest a lot of fans after watching the episodes. However, it’s hard to imagine Golden Boy wanting to risk their fighter against a solid fighter like Pacquiao at this point of Broner’s career because the chances are high that Broner would be out of his element. Also I doubt Arum would be agreeable to working with Golden Boy in promoting this fight. He’d have to be agreeable to working with Golden Boy, because this wouldn’t be one of his in house Top Rank type fights that he often likes to put together.

Man would love to see this fight. This fight would make Broner and instant mega star right away and beating Manny would immediately make him p4p king right there with Floyd of course. Got Em!!

Broner would knock Pacquiao clean out. Pac had trouble with Bradley and couldn't beat him.
I think so also. I know my dude is young but he is a very mature fighter and has the skills through the roof. Got Em!!

lol @ tony. Call me when broner fights someone better than demarco above 140 pounds, then talk about pacquiao.
Say what u want but I think he would handle Pac. I knew what Broner would turn into when he was like 20. I just saw it and now other people are seeing it. Got Em!!

Broner vs Garcia would be good...Broner has a chance against anybody IMO, just needs to get in the ring with the best.
Agreed. He is the next great fighter in boxing period and I dont see anyone beating him. Got Em!!

Broner would do bad things to Garcia
What Roy Jones say " Broner come into the ring with bad intentions" haha. Got Em!!

if manny looks like shit against marquez again I say he just retires because rios will finish him and mayweather would just embarrass him.
Yep. Got Em!!

it's all speculation or wishful thinking on your part though since he hasn't proved much yet. It's like me saying Rigondeaux or Gamboa could beat Mayweather, despite being several weight classes below and despite never fighting a true A class fighter.

Bottomline is Broner is a 135 pound fighter and the best opponent to date is demarco. We all have no clue what he would be at 147 pounds against a true puncher and someone as talented as Pac.

Dude its all opinions on anything we believe or think. I think he would beat Pac and u dont. Doesnt make your opinion better than mine. I know the kind of fighter Broner is and what he will be. Its just a matter of time. I know greatness when I see it. I never said it was a fact he is the best fighter or p4p king. I said he will be the best fighter soon enough and after Mayweather leaves the sport. Time will tell and when it happens please give me my props! Got Em!!

all I'm saying comrade is we don't know if broner will be great or not since he hasn't fought anyone great yet. I've seen many fighters over the years who looked great early on but for whatever reasons couldn't take it to the next level. I'm not saying broner wont make it, as of now he's looked fantastic last few fights. time will tell like u say.

I understand that as I have said its just my opinion and prediction for Broner. I have also seen guys who looked great early on but failed. I see Broner as the next big thing in boxing and will soon enough be the best in the business! Again I could be wrong but until and if I am proven wrong thats what I believe. He is that talented in my eyes. Got Em!!

I am not saying Broner would be Pac.......I'm not there yet with him or even saying he would beat Mayweather......(although it would be interesting seeing 2 similar fighters fight)

But Broner vs. Garcia.......come on 2-0 .......even you have to admit Broner would beat that boy down. And I like Garcia, but Broner would roll that dude.

Too quick for him. Period.

Boxings Next Mexican-American Star Has Emerged: Robert The Ghost Guerrero!
Boxing news published November 27, 2012 | 12 Comments

1579 boxingNovember 27, 2012 – Photo by Naoki Fukuda – In a battle that had Super Bowl like stakes on the line, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs) thoroughly dominated former two-time welterweight world champion Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KOs), over twelve grinding back and forth action-packed rounds, dropping him twice in the process. The slug-fest has many commentators, fans and media, considering this war to be “Fight of the year”.

Guerrero, a four-time world champion over six weight classes, is the only Mexican-American fighter, other than future Hall of Famer and promoter Oscar De La Hoya, to win as many titles in as many weight classes.

After once campaigning at the Junior featherweight (122 pounds) weight class, “The Ghost” has now triumphed over six weight divisions, being the only active fighter other than Manny Pacquiao to compete and win in as many divisions.

“My number one goal is to give the fans the fights they deserve and use my platform as a prizefighter to help save lives by directing them to BeTheMatch.org which allows people to become bone marrow donors.” said Guerrero

It’s time for fresh faces with an old school mentality to rise up and Robert has proved to pack fifteen grueling rounds into twelve-round fights, bringing back the memories of boxing’s best throwback champions.

When asked what pushes him to win fights with a blood and guts approach, Guerrero simply answered, “My faith in my Lord and savior Jesus Christ and my Family. My favorite verse is ACTS 2:38.”

Many pundits are salivating at the prospect of a Guerrero vs. Pacquiao showdown, which would be an all out offensive battle. Both fighters are rugged, present an aggressive come forward style, and the fans, media, and those watching around the world, would be anticipating a scintillating all out action packed war.

“Obviously I’ll be watching the Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight closely and I’ll be ready to take either one of them out.” Guerrero concluded

Schaefer: Mayweather is interested in Robert Guerrero fight
Boxing news published November 27, 2012 | 48 Comments

mayweather23 boxingBy Rob Smith: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says that WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is interested in facing WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero in 2013. Schaefer said to LA Times writer Lance Pugmire “Interest is there. It’s a process, one that has begun. I have a site and date in mind.”

If Mayweather takes the fight this will finally end Guerrero’s constant calling Mayweather out. He’s been wanting a fight with Mayweather for well over a year, and it’s been a source of comedy to some boxing fans because Guerrero was talking about a Mayweather fight even before he’d fought at welterweight. Now that Guerrero has beaten two of the top welterweights in Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto no one is laughing anymore. They have to take Guerrero seriously, because he’s winning decisively and looking pretty sharp.

Guerrero gave Berto a real beating last Saturday night in a 12 round decision, swelling both of his eyes in the process. After the fight Guerrero declined an offer from Max Kellerman to fight a rematch against Berto, and instead said he wanted Mayweather next.
That made sense because why should Guerrero want to go over old ground and face Berto again after he beat him in such a one-sided manner by knocking him down twice and almost closing both of his eyes.

If Mayweather doesn’t take the fight with Guerrero his options a little more difficult. If he faces WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez, Mayweather will take a lot of punishment because Alvarez is a strong fighter and he’s young.

The other big fight that boxing fans want to see Mayweather take is Manny Pacquiao. That too is a difficult fight for Mayweather, but perhaps not a doable one because of all the different aspects of negotiations that would have to be agreed upon to make the fight reality. Guerrero is a much easier fight, and an easier fight to put together for Mayweather. Guerrero doesn’t punch with the power or the speed of Pacquiao, and he doesn’t have the heavy hands that Alvarez has.

this is a easy fight & easy money for floyd

Arreola-Stiverne in WBC semi-final heavyweight eliminator on 1/26 in Los Angeles
Boxing article posted on November 27th, 2012 | Post Comment

Bermane Stiverne Arreola Stiverne Arreola vs. Stiverne chris arreola By Allan Fox: Former heavyweight title challenger Chris Arreola (35-2, 30 KO’s) will be taking on Canadian power puncher Bermane Stiverne (22-1-1, 20 KO’s) on January 26th on the Andre Ward vs. Kelly Pavlik undercard in a WBC semi-final heavyweight eliminator bout at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California.

The winner of the Stiverne vs. Arreola could end up with the WBC title if the current champion Vitali Klitschko retires or if the winner of this Saturday’s WBC heavyweight eliminator bout between Tyson Fury and Kevin Johnson decide to go in a different direction.

Arreola has to be considered the favorite in this fight because of his experience and his ability to throw combinations. Stiverne is more of a one punch at a time fighter, and that hurts him because he would be a much beter fighter if he put his punches together.

Stiverne, 34, is ranked #2 by the World Boxing Council but he’s not faced anyone in the class of Arreola. Stiverne has blown through most of his opponents since suffering a 4th round knockout loss to journeyman Demetrice King five years ago in 2007. That was a big of a shocking loss for Stiverne because this was thought to be an easy fight for him. But since then, he’s won 10 of 11 fights with one of them a 6 round draw against Charles Davis.

Arreola, 31, would seem like the better fighter compared to Stiverne. However, Arreola can be hurt and Stiverne definitely has the power to take hi out if he puts it on him early. Arreola has turned his career around in the last couple of years after getting beaten by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and Tomasz Adamek.

Arreola has now won his last seven fights and gotten control over his weight, which had ballooned upwards to as high as 263 in 2009. Fighting in the 240s now, Arreola isn’t quite as powerful as he once was, but he’s faster and can throw more shots.

Pavlik vs. Ward on January 26th, in Los Angeles, CA
Boxing article posted on November 27th, 2012 | Post Comment

Pavlik Ward Pavlik vs. Ward kelly pavlik andre ward By Allan Fox: Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34 KO’s) gets to be the next opponent for WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) in a fight televised by HBO on January 26th at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Pavlik has likely gotten the green light by HBO because he’s got a more recognizable name than top super middleweights Adonis Stevenson and Thomas Oosthuizen, because those guys would seem to be the better options for Ward right now.

Pavlik was a good fighter at 160, but he’s proven nothing since moving up to 168, and has faced mostly fringe level to 2nd tier opposition. Putting Pavlik in with Ward at this time is almost setting Pavlik up to fail, because he’s not proven that he can compete against the best at this weight yet.

Contrary to some of the opinions that have been floating around the boxing world about Pavlik’s promoter Bob Arum looking to cash out with him by throwing him in with a near un-winnable fight, it was Pavlik who insisted on taking this fight, not Arum. Pavlik sees something in Ward’s style that makes him think he can beat him.

Pavlik saw how Ward struggled at times in his figh with Carl Froch last December with Froch’s power shots, and Pavlik thinks he can do the same but much more. I doubt it because Pavlik isn’t a great inside fighter, and he’d have to be able to fight Ward on the inside in order to improve upon the job that Froch did.

Froch did a reasonable job against Ward at medium distance, but when Ward took the fight in close, Froch had no answers. Pavlik only has barely passable inside fighting skills. He’s not going to be able to get control of the fight if Ward takes it to the inside against him, and he certainly will be going that

Canelo: Mayweather Or Cotto, Either One Is A Good Match

By Rene Umanzor

World Boxing Council (WBC) junior middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs) is confident that his next opponent will either be Floyd Mayweather or Miguel Angel Cotto, and hopes that his promoter Golden Boy Promotions comes to terms with either of these pugilists.

Canelo also wanted to face WBC middleweight champion Sergio 'Maravila' Martinez, but that won't happen since Martinez is returning on April 27th in Argentina. Canelo will be ringside this Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. He plans to watch Cotto challenge WBA "regular" champion Austin Trout. Canelo hopes Cotto wins because he doesn't have any interest in facing Trout - even if he defeats Cotto.

Canelo will return on May 4th.

"I'm sure [my next opponent] will be Mayweather or Cotto. My team is working on that and [they are] doing very well. We also wanted 'Maravilla' but he wants to fight in Argentina. Either one is a good match but I would rather face Mayweather because he is the best, pound for pound. A fight with one of them is very close to materializing and that makes me very happy," said Canelo.

"Everything depends on the outcome of Saturday's fight Cotto and that will clarify a lot of things. Right now I'm just thinking about Floyd or Miguel, and I'm not thinking about any other opponents. Trout is not [an opponent] my team likes, not what I want and I hope Cotto wins ."
