The fact that the accident happened a week ago and Thurman was training after it isn't going to help his case when people say he's ducking..

WBC strips Jorge Linares of lightweight title
By Wil Esco  W @wil _esco on Feb 23, 2016, 1:53p +

After a fractured hand derailed Jorge Linares' mandatory title defense against Dejan Zlaticanin, the WBC vacates the title while naming Linares "champion in recess."

The WBC has officially stripped Jorge Linares of his 135 world title after a fractured hand he sustained during training forced him out of his mandatory title defense against Dejan Zlaticanin. With that title defense on the shelf, as Linares recovers from injury, the WBC will allow the 31-year-old Zlaticanin (21-0, 14 KOs) to face 39-year-old Emiliano Marsili (32-0-1, 14 KOs) for the now-vacant title.

This is sort of a tough break for Linares (no pun intended), but the move by the WBC was pretty much expected and the good news is that the WBC named Linares "champion in recess," which will allow him to immediately fight for the title once he's ready to return.

Zlaticanin, of Montenegro, is most recently coming of a fourth-round TKO win over Ivan Redkach last June, and also most notably bested Ricky Burns a year before that. Since then his promoter, Lou DiBella, has openly questioned whether or not Linares or Golden boy have ever wanted this fight against Zlaaticanin, and expressed his skepticism over the circumstances forcing Linares to pull out of the fight.

Meanwhile, Italy's Marsilii is probably a name that very few people, if any, are familiar with. He's undefeated in 33 professional fights, yes, but his last three opponents each had double digit losses, while he's also sporting a resume that contains five winless opponents. Boxrec has him rated No. 27 in the world, with the WBC having him rated at No. 2.

Two of my favorite fighters but trying to be unbiased here - this fight absolutely should not happen. Does nothing for Golovkin and honestly doesn't do much for Hopkins either. I mean Hopkins is a fucking legend, we know this. So if he were to pull from the well one more time and beat Golovkin at age 51, it's amazing and all but he's already going down as an amazing fighter. Golovkin is still a bit unproven since he hasn't been in the ring with an elite yet so the victory wouldn't mean a whole lot unless Golovkin goes on to do impressive things.

On the flipside I don't want to see Hopkins lose weight at his age his body is getting frail and he was hurt badly against Kovalev in the last round, granted Kovalev is a huge man compared to Golovkin but at this age Hopkins really shouldn't be taking any kind of punishment at all. If Hopkins is going to fight one more time I prefer it against some Karo Murat, Shumenov type basic, limited fighter that Hopkins can entertain and have fun with. Or maybe even Abraham, a guy with low output that Hopkins could easily control.

Besides all that, it doesn't do anything for the sport. If Hopkins wins, well that sucks for Golovkin vs Canelo or whatever, if Golovkin wins so what, he beat an ancient man. Do not want this fight hopefully K2 just tossing names around and exploring options, nothing more.

Gbp sending b-hop to take out ggg lol
Its not even to destroy GGG. Its to make him move up in weight so when he fights Canelo, he would have to drop that much more weight. GGG is at an age where he can't just move up and dow. If he was smart thought I would still fight Bernard and enter the fight at 160, like Cotto has done his past 2 fights.

It's not going to happen. I read what Hopkins was saying, it was a diss at Stevenson. Hopkins was saying he fought Kovalev, and that he was willing to go down in weight and fight another killer in Golovkin even at age 51, and yet Stevenson won't even fight Hopkins now or anyone else worth a damn for that matter.

I saw Loeffler's interview with the Ring as well and what he was saying is that IF after the Wade fight Canelo pussies out, then they'll go after Saunders and his title. Then they'll go after Danny Jacobs. And if those three fighters are all pussies and decline, then and only then would they entertain the idea of fighting Hopkins. So in other words very unlikely. Also you would have to consider by then Hopkins will surely secure a fight with someone.

Wait what? Per M @mike Coppinger, Bob Arum is willing to show some fights on Showtime. Probably because of HBO'S recent foolishness

That would be detrimental to HBO. Top Rank is their main source of fights. But Arum working with Haymon is great [ame]https://twitter.com/Studhardt22/status/702563590742495232[/ame] …
