Been hearing the Andre Ward rumors since immediately following his tune up fight against Paul Smith. Few things if true:

-Roc Nation isn't playing around with this card.
-It would certainly be against a weak opponent.
-All that inactivity has really hurt Ward's career if he's not even headlining cards.

Kovalev: Always Disliked Beterbiev, Want To Crush Him!

Posted by: Alexey Sukachev on 7/28/2015 .

By Konstantin Ustyantsev (Championat.com) and Alexey Sukachev

Fresh off the third-round destruction of his IBF mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi (37-4, 23 KOs), Super WBA, IBF and WBO champion Sergey Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) talked to Konstantin Ustyantsev about his rivalry with Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs), who is his most probable opponent for a proposed Moscow homecoming on November 28.

IBF #2, WBO #3, WBA/WBC #4 ranked Beterbiev, 30, who is also rated #6 by the TBRB, owns an official win over Kovalev in the finals of 2007 Russian nationals.

Tensions between two of the best Russian light heavyweight were in the spotlight of several vocal interviews by both parties in the past.

- What is your next goal? Am I right that you’re coming back to Russia and looking for Artur Beterbiev as your possible opponent?

- We shall see. We have to think about it. I was offered (Nathan) Cleverly, one African guy with a record of 27-0, 24 KOs, but I’m not interested (in these fights). In Russia, fans want me to see against someone of note, because I’m fighting for them. Beterbiev meets the requirements. Another possibility is a rematch with Jean Pascal, which I was offered after the Mohammedi fight. We shall consider those options and choose the best from the sportive, showbiz and financial points of view. Also, we need an agreement between both parties. For example, a fight versus (Adonis) Stevenson is unrealistic (for those reasons). We need to meet with some people in Moscow, who are interested in staging my next fight, and we shall see what comes out.

- You have said before that Beterbiev should go through elimination fight to be granted his shot at your title. Now you want to fight him ahead of the queue. Are you that confident in your victory?

- I’m always confident in my abilities. There are certain goals to be achieved, and I’m doing my best to achieve them, to live my life and to improve. I’m getting more experienced and wiser with each passing day. A natural idea came to my mind – to fight in my homeland. Why not? From one point of view, I don’t wish to give Arturchik [a diminutive form of Artur in Russian, which can also be considered pejorative in the certain context] a ground to get fame all over the world (by fighting me). He is known well in Russia, but by getting a shot at my title he will have a chance to get fame worldwide. On the other hand, it’s an exciting chance to crush his career instantly. I have never avoided any challenges. My principle is to give fans what they want – a thriller.

- Do you really dislike Beterbiev as a man or is it just a sportive rivalry?

- I certainly do (dislike him). I have always disliked him but it has nothing to do with his ethnicity [Beterbiev is of Chechen origin]. I’m not a nationalist and always vow for friendship between people. I just didn’t like him as a person.
Beterbiev/Al Haymon have rejected Kovalev's offer. I guess Beterbiev is saying they need another fight or two, which is weird because he was calling out Kovalev.

175 is weak right now. Kovalev just got down with his mandatory fight, against a crappy opponent who really didn't deserve to be ranked that high but that's the IBF for you, they are great about enforcing mandatories but because they constantly have eliminator fights to determine a mandatory, often times high ranked guys pass on a fight for whatever reason and the IBF just goes down the rankings until someone is available, then whoever wins gets put in a mandatory sport, which often times leads to these unknown guys become mandatories.

Stevenson is fighting another weak opponent in karpency:

And Hopkins is too old, looking for one more fight than retiring. There are some really solid up and comers though, just gotta get all these guys together and hopefully Stevenson and Kovalev can figure something out soon.

Berto’s trainer has simple game plan for him to crack the MayVinci code

floyd6666By Allan Fox: Virgil Hunter, the trainer for former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs), says he’s going to have the 31-year-old Berto come into his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) with a simple game plan for him to crack the MayVinci code when they get inside the ring on September 12th.

Hunter doesn’t want Berto to have a complicated plan when he gets inside the ring with Mayweather, because he feels that those types of plans don’t work against a fighter like Mayweather. Hunter sees the simple plans on being the best against Mayweather.

Hunter wants Berto to go into the fight using the things that have worked best for him in the past against other opposition. The problem is that Berto’s best skills have come up well short of the mark when he’s faced B level fighters like Robert Guerrero, Victor Ortiz and Jesus Soto Karass.

“You have to make it as simple as possible,” Hunter said via hustleboss.com. “Take what you have and display it with all your might and go from there. I don’t think it’s good to go into a fight with Mayweather with a game plan. I think it’s good to go into a fight with Mayweather to simply have a game plan for your guy to execute.”

It might help Berto to have a plan-B, C, D, E and F. Hopefully, Hunter doesn’t just have Berto come in the ring with only one option because it would be a shame to see Mayweather make one quick adaption in the opening round, and then spend the next 11 rounds clowning a confused Berto. Hunter needs to have some things that his fighters can use, because his fighter Amir Khan looked totally lost in his recent fight against Chris Algieri.

Hunter was trying to motivate Khan in between rounds, but the two of them looked totally confused. It almost looks like the only fighter in Hunter’s stable who knows how to fight properly is Andre Ward. Perhaps it’s because he’s been with Hunter for so long, and he knows how to implement the things that he tells him to do.

Berto doesn’t look any better than he did in the years before he was trained by Hunter. The only difference is that Berto has been facing weaker opposition recently in his fights against Josesito Lopez and Steven Upsher Chambers. Before those two fights, Berto was getting beaten up by guys like Jesus Soto Karass, Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero.

“Because I think it’s good to go into a fight with Mayweather to simply have a game plan for your guy to execute and not a game plan to beat Floyd Mayweather,” Hunter said. “Because I think it takes all types of intangibles and all types of connections. I think the simplest way to approach it is ‘How bad do you want to win?’, ‘What are you willing to sacrifice to win?’ and what works for you all these years when you are having success, are you willing to employ that over time?’

Andre Berto: 'I'm just as fast, maybe faster' than Floyd Mayweather Jr.

When Andre Berto steps into the ring on Sept. 12 against pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, he will be an underdog, he says, for the first time in his career.

The odds are currently stacked heavily against him, and the MGM Grand Sports Book line opened at 50-1.

Much has been written about how disappointing the selection of Berto, a former welterweight champion, has been as Mayweather’s dance partner for the final bout of his 20-year Hall of Fame career.
Ads by ZINC

Berto, 31, a Floridian of Haitian descent, doesn’t worry about things he cannot control, and being underestimated, he says, is simply part of the business.

“It’s the fight game,” he explained to USA TODAY Sports by phone this week. “The fight game only (cares about) your last performance. With the fight game, it’s just how they’re not interested or they want to hate on a situation.

“Say you do something spectacular, they hop right back on. It’s something (I’ve been dealing with) pretty much my whole career. Coming out of the Olympics, and being highly touted, there have been criticisms of certain performances — I’ve always been held to a high (standard) when it comes to that. . . . And I’ve always been the favorite, so this is the first fight I’m going in as the underdog. You know, it’s a different situation for me, but right now it just feels great, it feels right.”

MORE: Berto selection a disappointment

Berto, who fought for Haiti in the 2004 Olympics — his parents were both born there but he is U.S.-born — says he’s not entirely sure why Mayweather picked him over Amir Khan, or Keith Thurman, or any number of candidates who wanted the fight.

“He’s got a lot of different reasons. Me and him go way back,” Berto said. “It’s a fight that was supposed to happen a long time ago, actually, before the whole injury thing happened. But . . . It is what it is. I think that’s a question that you need to ask (Floyd). I think maybe he sees something there that’s going to be exciting for the people.”

The injury was a serious torn right shoulder tendon suffered against gatekeeper Jesus Soto-Karass two years ago that sidelined Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) for 14 months. He says he fought virtually the entire fight left-handed. And it’s one of the reasons why he is so hungry to show fans that he is no pushover.

“I’ve told everybody I didn’t want this fight just to get a paycheck. I want to try to make history,” he says. “That’s just what it is. Everybody knows that I bring a lot to the table when it comes to power and having that determination. I’ve been knocked down, I’ve fought 12 rounds with a torn shoulder, I’ve done this and I’ve done that. If (Floyd) had to go through anything like that, how would he deal with it? I’ve answered a lot of questions already. They know how I’m going to respond.

IT’S ON: Mayweather vs. Berto set for Sept. 12

“So I’m just dialing in, I’m just dialing in. That’s what I got to do. Of course, this is the fight game, and people are going to say what they want to say. But these are the types of situations that make boxing exciting, even situations that create astonishing moments in boxing history. You see guys that are (big) underdogs come out victorious, so that’s the only thing that’s going through my mind.”

Berto is as healthy as he has been in years, he says. “Yeah, I feel pretty good. As everybody knows, I’ve been dealing with a lot of health issues. I’ve got a lot of things worked out, I’ve got a lot of people to work with me through camp and I’m finally injury-free, I feel good and focused on the task ahead.”

The former two-time welterweight champ has a 7-1 record in world title fights, with four knockouts. His last fight in March was an impressive sixth-round TKO of a faded Josesito Lopez for the interim WBA welterweight title.

Yet he has lost three of his last six fights. His unanimous decision loss — the first of his career — to Victor Ortiz was 2011’s Fight of the Year. A rematch with Ortiz was later cancelled when Berto tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandralone. Berto has steadfastly denied using PEDs.

Despite the losses and controversies, Berto is not lacking in confidence. Asked about how he will deal with Mayweather’s vaunted quickness, Berto says his sparring partners are cat-quick, too, and “I’m just as fast, maybe even faster (than Mayweather). I don’t think Floyd’s fought anyone with speed probably since Zab Judah.”

Getting a shot against the best boxer in the world on the sport’s biggest stage and a career-high payday is a big deal for Berto, and “definitely a good situation.”

“It means everything, man, coming from where I come from, you know, the ratio to succeed is low, just to make it out,” he says. “It means a lot for the city where I’m from (Winter Haven, Fla.), for Haiti as well, and for my family. This is an opportunity we’ve been waiting for, and something we’ve always assured ourselves would happen sooner or later.”

Dan Rafael chat wrap 8/7:

- Believes Ward will eventually get a PPV fight and/or a fight with a big named star fighter.
- Ward is in the works to be on the Canelo-Cotto PPV. It is not done, but in the works.
- Kirkland may fight on the undercard of Canelo-Cotto. His understanding is that Kirkland is partially promoted by GB, so his ties to 50 Cent don't make it impossible to make fights.
- Believes the Mayweather-Berto PPV will do around 600k buys, possibly less. Has not heard one positive thing from anyone regarding this fight. May be Mayweather's lowest selling PPV in a decade.
- When big fights happen he gets radio requests from around the world. Mayweather fights would produce a ton of requests. For this fight he has only 1 request so far and it was from the UK. Highly unusual lack of interest so far.
- Expects Canelo vs. Cotto to sell more than Mayweather vs. Berto.
- The undercard for Mayweather-Berto looks decent. Undercard will be Jack-Groves, Martinez-Salido, another fight they are working on, and Martirosyan-Smith on the Showtime pre-show.
- Been frustrated lately by the liars and BS'ers within the industry lately.
- Broner says he is returning October 3. Likely on Thurman's undercard.
- WBO ordered Bradley his mandatory of Ali today. Has not heard if the WBO will allow a step aside or not. If they don't Bradley would have to drop the belt to fight Rios.
- Likes a Bradley vs. Ali fight, but prefers Bradley vs. Rios.
- Never been to a fight where he wasn't working, so he has never gone as a fan and gotten to root and cheer.
- If Berto wins it still isn't a bigger upset than Douglas vs. Tyson.
- The WBO is not a TR belt. The WBO has 17 world titles, TR currently owns 3 of those belts (Bradley, Crawford, and Lomachenko).
- Fastest KO he has seen? In bigger fights: Tua vs. Moorer and Tyson vs. Etienne.
- HBO will be doing special programming for GGG vs. Lemiuex. Has not heard if it is a 24/7, Face Off, or what exactly.
- Updates on GGG PPV? Chocolatito opponent not set, Stiverne vs. Ortiz is close, and it should be a good fight for as long as it lasts.
- Was at the Entienne-Oquendo fight and a prominent writer sitting next to him was mocking Entienne saying he didn't have a glass chin, he had a glass head. Entienne's family was sitting behind them and almost got into a fight with the other writer.
- The rumor he heard was that CBS, Showtime, and Haymon were all willing to put Mayweather vs. Berto on free TV, but they required Mayweather to take less money than his standard contract. He said no and to finance the fight they have to put it on PPV.
- Believes Floyd has an excellent chance for a KO vs. Berto.
- Dirrell vs. Rubio on Sept. 6. Quillin should be fighting Sept. 12.
- Stiverne has accepted to fight Ortiz on the GGG-Lemiuex undercard. They are waiting on Ortiz to decide.
- Quigg and Donaire are in talks to fight in November.
- Mares vs. LSC atmosphere will be good, but not Mosley-Mayorga good.
- Expecting Cotto vs. Canelo to be announced on Monday or Tuesday.
- Always thought Malignaggi was an overachiever. He and Danny are not necessarily friends, but like each other.
- If Malignaggi is an overachiever, who are big underachievers? Broner, Pavlik.
- Believes Huck beats Glowacki easily.
- Who would he have chosen for Floyd to fight? Khan or Thurman.
- Shawn Porter will be sitting in as commentator for Tarver on Spike next week.
- Would love to see Garcia vs. Thurman.
- Although the announcement came late, Berto knew about the fight before the announcement and has been in training camp.
- Jessie Vargas is appealing the result of the Bradley fight. His appeal has not been heard, but gives him zero chance.
- Does not think this will be Floyd's last fight.
- Fight official today, Spence will face Van Heerdan on the Stevenson undercard, Sept. 11.
- The IBF said that Hopkins never responded to the order to face Beterbiev, so they move on to the next ranked fighter which is Chilemba. The IBF has been following their own rules consistently lately.
- Likes the idea of a Porter-Peterson fight.
- Not really any fighters currently that he hasn't seen in person that he wishes he could. Possibly Inoue.
- Mayweather Promotions is going to be the sole promoter for his fight vs. Berto.
- Floyd promised to vacate his belts following the Pacquiao fight. He had 5 belts, vacated 0 and was stripped of 1.
- Talked with the WBA and they said they will require Danny Garcia to defend his belt at 140 within 90 days or he will be stripped (he can also relinquish the belt).
- Told Thurman on a conference call that he was moved from WBA interim to WBA regular champion. Thurman had not heard and was confused.
- Joshua vs. Parker right now? Joshua.
- Doesn't like that PBC's announcer isn't in the ring.

Awesome card in Moscow!

Grigory Drozd vs. Ilunga Makabu. This is an excellent cruiserweight matchup. Killer fight. The card also has with Lebedev, Kudryashov, Chakhkiev, Povetkin and others:

Were you ever able to track down the Makabu Vs. Mchunu fight? Still haven't been able to find that fight in full.

I'd love to see Kudryashov in an eliminator of some type. Dude was real power. No accumulation, wear you down power, but real knock you dead power.

Nah man still haven't found the full fight. Ilunga Makabu reminds me of Roy Jones, fights kinda like him.

Kudryashov seems to have freakish power curious to see how he looks when he truly steps up. Cruiserweight is so underrated right now it's stacked

Marcos Maidana Could Return on November Date

Posted by: Miguel Rivera on 8/8/2015 .

>>>Click Here For Tons of More Breaking Boxing News, Articles and Insider Information<<<

By Miguel Rivera

Former two division world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs) has been out of the ring for nearly a year and is not expected back until the month of November at the earliest and he may not even fight until 2016.

Maidana was last in the ring last September, losing a twelve round unanimous decision in his rematch with WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Maidana's trainer, Robert Garcia, says there is a chance that his boxer will return in November - depending on his training which starts in September. Maidana has gained a lot of weight in his off-time and its has to evaluated if he'll be physically ready in time for a November fight.

"I spoke to his advisor, Sebastian Contursi, who said that 'Chino' will be starting to hit the gym in September to see if you can fight in November, which give us a good amount of time to train, as it would almost be three months," Garcia told ESPN Deportes.

"I think he already found the motivation [to fight again] because he came asking for his return. I honesty didn't expect [him to fight] until next year but he seems to be ready [to want to fight] by November, near the end [of that month], and that's fine."

Thurman thinks Mayweather used Errol Spence to get him off his back

141Facebook13Twitter5Google+

thurman333By Dan Ambrose: WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) still believes WBA/WBC 147lb champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) put unbeaten hard hitting #8 WBA contender Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) on him to get him to back off from badgering him to try and get a fight.

Despite Spence saying himself that he wants the Thurman fight because he sees him as a flawed fighter that he can beat, Thurman doesn’t believe that Spence is sincere about wanting to fight him. He thinks that the only reason why Spence is saying he wants to fight him is because his “Uncle Mayweather” put him up to it.

While Thurman says that he’d be willing to fight Spence if he felt that he deserved the shot, he says he doesn’t want to fight him now. This has many boxing fans believing that Thurman is just plain afraid to fight Spence because he hits harder than anyone that Thurman has fought before and he’s deadly accurate.

“That’s complete talk. [Mayweather] threw it [Spence] in the mix so we could stop talking about Keith Thurman vs. Floyd Mayweather,” Thurman said via ESPN.com. “It’s called trying to get the monkey off his back. But it’s more like a gorilla with these hands.”

I don’t think Mayweather is asking a lot of Thurman. Mayweather has something that Thurman wants – his titles and a huge payday he’d get in fighting him. Mayweather is basically telling Thurman that if he wants to prove himself worthy of fighting him, then he’s got to prove it by fighting someone who he feels is a very good fighter in Errol Spence.

Thurman seems to feel that Mayweather is obligated to fight him just because of the guys that he’s fought in the past and because he holds the WBA “regular” welterweight title. But the problem is Thurman has never fought anyone that you can call a good fighter. The best guys that Thurman has beaten are Robert Guerrero, Luis Collazo, Diego Chavez, Jesus Soto Karass, Julio Diaz, Carlos Quintana, and Leonard Bundu.

Those are pretty much all fringe level and non-top 15 ranked fighters. Quintana is retired. Diaz looks to be finished as well. Soto-Karass is a 2nd tier fighter. The rest of the guys are bottom 15 fringe level fighters. You can’t blame Thurman for the weak match-making that’s been done on his behalf, but since he’s the product of the match-making, you can’t say he deserves a shot at Mayweather either. Thurman went along with the watch-making that’s been done for him, and for that reason he has to deal with being passed over by Mayweather because of the fact that he’s never fought anyone good before.

If Thurman doesn’t want to fight the one good opponent that Mayweather has asked him to fight in Errol Spence, then it kind of shows you that Thurman feels that he doesn’t have to work for something. He just wants the Mayweather fight to be plopped into his lap without him having to do anything to earn it. Thurman can complain and be bitter about Mayweather passing him over for the fight, but Thurman really can only blame himself because he was told what he needed to do in fighting Spence and he chose not to do it. Thurman has taken the safe route by electing not to fight Spence, and now he’s upset with Mayweather for clueing him into a path that he needed to take.

“With all of the welterweights Errol Spence can call out, he wants to call out Keith Thurman?” Thurman said. “Floyd Mayweather told him to do it. ‘Yes, no problem. I’ll do what you ask.’ Whenever that boy deserves an actual title shot against a real champion, I’ll be there and I’ll be willing to give him that chance.”

Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) certainly deserves a world title shot against Thurman more than Collazo, doesn’t he? Collazo wasn’t ranked in the top 15, and had recently been beaten by Amir Khan. So why did Thurman fight a non-ranked fighter like Collazo rather than a top 10 ranked contender like Spence? It didn’t make sense for Thurman to fight Collazo but not Spence. Besides that, Thurman isn’t really a ‘real champion’ in the minds of a lot of boxing fans, because the WBA has two world champions for the same weight class at 147. There’s Thurman, who is more of an interim strap holder, and then there’s Mayweather, who holds the WBA Super World welterweight title. Many boxing fans see Mayweather as the real WBA champion and Thurman as just the interim WBA strap holder.

I believe that Thurman doesn’t want any part of fighting Spence and he’ll use whatever excuse he can think of in order not to have to face him. Spence is seen as the future of the welterweight division, and Thurman is just some guy that is holding down one of the WBA’s minor belts. Thurman is not THE WBA 147lb champion. That title is held by Mayweather. Thurman had a chance to pick up one of Mayweather’s two welterweight titles if he agreed to fight Spence, but he turned down the fight. Why would Thurman turn down a chance to pick up another welterweight title by fighting Spence? That’s a good question.

“I want to end with a great ender. Possibly Amir Khan,” Thurman said. “Possibly Kell Brook. Shawn Porter just won a fight. So there’s a lot of options.”

I don’t see Thurman fighting any of those guys, and I definitely don’t see him fighting Spence. At best, I see Thurman continuing to fight Khan’s leftovers by facing someone like Chris Algieri. Thurman already fought two of Khan’s past opponents in Julio Diaz and Collazo. Now I think we’ll see Thurman fighting Algieri. I don’t know how the World Boxing Association will justify letting Thurman take the fight with Algieri coming off of a loss to Khan, but then again the WBA let Thurman defend his title against Collazo, who had been recently beaten by Khan.

Mayweather Sr: My son don’t need to whoop Golovkin

golovkin994By Dan Ambrose:
Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. doesn’t want to see his son superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) fight IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) because he thinks he’d beat him and possibly knock him out in the process if he hit the Kazakhstan star just right. Floyd Sr. thinks Golovkin needs to chill out and forget about wanting to fight his son Mayweather Jr. because it’s a fight he would probably lose.

“My son don’t need to whoop him [Golovkin] up. Tell him to go take a chill pill,” Floyd Sr. said to Fighthype. “If Floyd hit him with one of them and hit him right.”

I don’t think Golovkin is going to back off with his interest in fighting Mayweather Jr. just because Floyd Sr. doesn’t want to see the fight happen. Golovkin says it’s been his dream to fight Mayweather Jr. for a long time, and he’d come down all the way to 154 to make the fight happen if he could get it. Mayweather has already said that he’d beat Golovkin if they ever were to fight. Mayweather says Golovkin’s style of fighting is simple without any bells or whistles.

Since Mayweather has already said that his fight against Andre Berto on September 12th will be the last one of his career, I don’t think a fight between Mayweather and Golovkin is possible. It’s too bad though because it would be interesting to see Golovkin test Floyd Sr’s theory of Mayweather putting a whooping on Golovkin.

For Mayweather to score a knockout of Golovkin, he’d have to hit him just right with a solid shot. The fact that Mayweather couldn’t KO Marcos Maidana, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Miguel Cotto, Robert Guerrero and Manny Pacquiao would kind of suggest that Mayweather lacks the pop in his shots to get a guy like Golovkin out of there, even if he lands the perfect punch. I don’t know if there is a perfect shot that Mayweather can land that would do the job on a guy like Golovkin. I think he would walk through every kind of punch that Golovkin would throw to get him out of there.

If Mayweather wanted to really create an impressive legacy that rivaled the guys that he compares himself to like Sugar Ray Robinson, then it would be in Mayweather’s best interest to take the fight with Golovkin to try and prove himself against the fighter that many boxing fans see as the best fighter in the middleweight division.

If Mayweather could beat Golovkin, it would be a pretty special win, and I believe the win would be even more impressive than Mayweather’s wins over Pacquiao, Canelo and Cotto. Golovkin is a middleweight, and slightly lighter than the 175lb Canelo. Golovkin fights at 170 compared to Canelo’s 175. There’s no question that a victory for Mayweather over Golovkin would be a huge plus to Mayweather’s legacy. It would be the victory that would cement Mayweather’s legacy.

No one would ask Mayweather to bother fighting guys like Amir Khan, Kell Brook, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter or Danny Garcia if he could beat a fighter as good as Golovkin because it would be such a huge win for Mayweather. There wouldn’t be any other reason for fans to pressure Mayweather to fight anyone else because a victory over Golovkin would be the crowning achievement to Mayweather’s long 19-year pro career.

One gets the sense that Floyd Sr. isn’t exactly excited about seeing his son Mayweather Jr. face the hard hitting Golovkin. You can’t blame Floyd Sr. for not being excited about the Mayweather vs. Golovkin fight taking place, because if Golovkin landed just right with one of his big left hooks or right hands, he might knock Mayweather clean out.

Mayweather was hurt by Marcos Maidana in their second fight, and by Shane Mosley. If those guys were able to hurt Mayweather and put him in trouble then a fighter like Golovkin would have a good chance of doing even more.

Canelo would have had a better chance of hurting Mayweather if he’d focused on slugging with him instead of boxing him like we saw in that fight. Canelo wasted his opportunity against Mayweather by fighting the wrong fight and basically giving Mayweather the win.
