I can tell you, the X5D is pretty shitty.

The Nord, most of the E-Mu shit, the Virus, the waldorf's and the JP8000, they all have nice sounds. That's just my opinion, others may think differently. From what I have heard first hand, they all are great

first hand experience (although limited) i would have to say the jp8000 or 8080, theyre both the same but one is a rack, the other a board. the korg z1 had some really powerful sounds on there as well. and of course you cant go wrong with the mo phatt.
