it's usually a 50/50 split between the WRITER(S) [both music and lyrics] and the PUBLISHER. (sometimes the record company can publish , sometimes the artist is his own publisher- sting own all of his publishing rights [100% cus he is both the writer and the publisher])
then when that's split up the writers (beat maker and lyric writer and melody writer (for example the melodies for hooks are usually written by the rapper and not the beat maker, unless you're talkin abou the neptunes where they might come up with melodies for hooks)
so then it's up to them to decide how they split that 50 percent.
and shit like that

I disagree. The only way the publisher can take your publishing is if you sign it away to them. Publishing is the sole property of the writer and composer unless legally given away.
With publishers such as ASCAP and BMI you pay yearly dues to be a member. This is where they make their money. On the other hand if you were to sign with a publisher such as Windswept you would give them a % of your publishing in return for their services. A company like this actually works to get your work published.
I don't want to get super deatiled here since dude just wanted to know what "ub" was, but go check out ASCAP and BMI's websites. They will help clarify things.

ASCAP and BMI are not publishers. that's a common misconception. they're "PERFORMANCE RIGHTS SOCIETIES" (PRS) that collect money from Radio, TV, restaurants and distribute it to the writer (who may or may not be the publisher as well) and the publisher.

As a gift Tech gave Diamond part of his publishing,during their shit together. and it is split 50/50 between Writer/beat maker, When you sign a pub deal the company such as Windswept collects your money gives you advances and takes a % of your pub. So you really dont need a pub deal, but their supposed to work to get your music in movies, tv and other things like that. Just saying the same thing just a little plainer in this situation.
