Egyptian health ministry officials say at least 73 people were killed and hundreds of others injured Wednesday in violence following a soccer match in the northern city of Port Said.

Fans of the home team, al-Masry, swarmed the field after a rare win against al-Ahly, Egypt's top team. They threw rocks, fireworks and bottles at opposing fans and players. Live television footage showed fans running onto the field and chasing al-Ahly players. The footage also showed images of a fire in the stadium.
Soon after the violence, another match in the capital, Cairo, was halted by the referee after receiving news of the violence in Port Said, a city on the Mediterranean coast.

Violence at soccer matches across North Africa has increased significantly since political unrest sweeping across the region began more than a year

Former United States national team boss Bob Bradley says he has put no thought into his future as Egypt coach in the aftermath of the violence which claimed 74 lives during an Egyptian league game on Wednesday.

Bradley, who took over from interim coach Hany Ramsy in Egypt last September, attended a protest rally in Cairo with his wife on Thursday to show support for the victims of the tragedy in Port Said. However, Bradley claims he has not yet decided whether he will follow a similar path to several notable Egyptian players who have announced their retirement since the incident took place.

"I have not thought about this at all today," Bradley told Stad El Ahly. "Our thoughts today are with the families of the victims. We wanted to show respect for the people who lost their lives, for the people who are most affected by this tragedy. Of course, we feel strongly about what we are here to do in Egypt.

"It's the dream of all the people here to qualify for the World Cup, and we came here to work with the people and work in the federation to try to accomplish this dream. Today is just a sad day that's hard to understand and our thoughts today are just with the families of the victims."

Egyptian prime minister Kamal el-Ganzouri has disbanded the board of the country's Football Association in response to the tragedy. The precise impact this decision will have on the Egyptian league and national team, Bradley says, is not yet known.

"In the moment, there are questions about what will happen with the league and decisions will be made: Will it continue? Will it be cancelled? Will they play with no fans in the stadium? All of these things would clearly impact the situation for the national team."

Bradley was scheduled to lead the Egyptian national team in a training camp from February 15, with the next match - a 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifier away to Central African Republic - set for February 29.

damn, thatd be pretty faulty if they had to move to playing in an empty stadium cause the fans were too crazy

i think everybody would just move to multiple private events where there was like 100-1000 ppl gathered in an area watching the game and the shit would be even worse lol cause who knows what kind of weapons ppl would have and no one would be there to stop it (not like the police or military were able to stop this riot at all though)

do they even get drunk at egypt soccer games? lol for some reason i imagine these people being fully sober
