Do you have someone to host your dot com? Find a host, they're cheap. Then upload the pages and media via ftp or your control panel. It takes a min for the domain to propagate (work).

There's a lot to chose from. Since you're just starting out I'd get something small, cheap and easy. What kind of site are you starting? Here's a few to take a look at.

http://www.dimensionservers.com/index.php?page=compare-shared
http://www.peerlessmachines.com/shared.php
http://asmallorange.com/services/hosting/
http://www.amhosting.com/Home/tabid/293/Default.aspx
http://www.mediatemple.net/webhosting/gs/
http://www.dreamhost.com/

And go here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/index.php) to search for company reviews and offers.

you obviously know little about building a website if you plan on creating one I suggest you set up something like this

http://southparkcoalition.com/

I'm able to create all the information posted on that site just like I'm posting this right now it take NO HTML knowledge the basics like <img src=" and <a href=" ain't even needed.

now getting your site set up like that will likely take some help see your already having problems

you need a place to host your pages. I know go daddy offers server space also. You then need to change the settings on the domain name to either point to the server (DNS) or domain forward to your index page.

Theres no problems. I thought if i bought a .com then it would let me build my site from that, but im not seeing any advance editor or anything that will let me use raw HTML...

so basically..i have the .COM now i needs a HOST...build the page on the Host site...then some how make the HOST site go to my .com?

like everybody said.. besides owning a domain, you also have to buy hosting.. (when you buy a domain, you just own the website name.. you have to get hosting, to have somebody host your site, on their server, so it can be online..)

once you get hosting, you'll have to set up your account so that the hosting is for that specific domain..

once you've done all that, you upload the contents of your website (html pages, images, linked files) using an ftp client; just make sure the main page is called index.html, and that's what will show up when people go to your site.

you don't build the page on a "host site"..

you build the page on your own, using whatever web design software it is that you use (or just a plain text editor, whatever..) and then once you've signed up for a hosting plan (& got that set up with your domain name), then you can upload your website, using the ftp login information you're given when you sign up for hosting.

i tell clients like this...

a website is like having a cellphone...

cellphone = dot.com

provider/plan = hosting...

you can have a cellphone but unless you have a provider then its not gonna work...

haha good way to put it

for future reference most hosting packages offer a free domain name and now many host packages make it possible to host 5+ domain names at no extra cost.

So say I have a client who has a host on a vDeck server. I can basically buy a domain for $6.50 and host that site on their server changing another client for a hosting plan as well or hooking a homie up with a site
