A historical drama set in Roman Egypt, concerning a slave who turns to the rising tide of Christianity in the hopes of pursuing freedom while also falling in love with his master, the famous female philosophy professor and atheist Hypatia of Alexandria

A thought-provoking parable on the role of religious intolerance in unstoppable cycles of social violence.

anyone peep this out? I heard it was pretty good, wanted to see if anyone checked it out yet...not too often we get historical films that show how brutal christians were/are

I give this movie a solid 7 out of 10.

The Religious Anti-Defamation Observatory protested against the film for "promoting hatred of Christians and reinforcing false clichés about the Catholic Church." I think that deserves a couple points in itself :)

It could have been better, some of the scenes were a little flat, but other parts were done extremely well.

They seemed to do a really good job recreating the time, everything looked real & authentic

To me that's about all it had going for it. The story seemed like it had potential to be good, or at least interesting, but it got lost somewhere.

I'm wondering if they had stuck with one story if it would have been better. Instead of telling about both the religious regime change and the chick with her philosophy, if they just focused on one.

I'd give it a 6 for quality production and recreating a mostly believable Roman-era city.

Making a movie that gets Christians riled up is hardly new, unique or shocking.
