This is brutal, hard to watch.

Summary of what happened:

Teenage Boxer Collapses and Dies After Bout in Jakarta

By James Goyder

A teenage boxer collapsed and died following a bout at the TVRI Studio in Jakarta last night. Tubagus Sakti, 17, was rushed to hospital after suffering convulsions following his eighth round TKO defeat at the hands of Ical Tobida.

Doctors at the Universitas Kristen Indonesia Hospital were unable to save Tubagus who died at 13:30 local time on Sunday afternoon. According to the hospital the cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage.

The fight was for the vacant KTPI Junior Flyweight Title and was scheduled for 12 rounds. According to boxrec Sakti had a professional record of 2-2-2 going into the title match with Tobida. Sakti made his debut in April 2011.

Prior to the stoppage Tubagus stopped defending himself and put his hand in the air, at this point the referee steps in immediately but not before Ical has a chance to land a couple more clean blows. You can see footage of the finish to this fight here although some readers might find it disturbing.

Really fucked up they put in a 17 year old fighter with a record of 2-2-2 against a 29 year old veteran in some title fight. Some of these commissions in Indonesia are just terrible. Seems every couple years someone dies over there.

That sucks man. Can't believe there's a video of it. I didn't even watch it.

And no disrespect, but a lot of people have referrred to Asian fighters as being "tender headed." I don't know what the statistics are but it seems like most of the fighters that die are Asian a lot of times.

it has to do more with the blatant mismatches, imo. Most of the deaths they seem to occur in Indonesia where the boxing commissions are absolutely terrible. Like this fight here, what is a kid with a record of 2-2-2 doing in a title fight against a 30 year old? No 17 year old should be fighting 12 round fights.

It happens in Mexico ALLLLLLLL the time and boxing related deaths appear to be far less frequent.

You don't see many 17 year old fighters with only a few fights and no amateur experience going against veterans with 30 fights in a title fight.

Mexico is usually pretty good compared to Indonesia. Most teenage fighters that turn pro in Mexico are fighting 4 & 6 round fights. Not 12.

Indonesia is notoriously bad when it comes to regulating boxing. I believe in 2010 alone there were three deaths. It's so bad Jose Sulaiman called for a ban of pro boxing in Indonesia. And it's been like that for a long time in 2001 there were 5 deaths in a 10 month period. All blatant mismatches.

Compare other Asian countries, such as Japan who have very good regulations, you just don't see deaths that often.

It's not a coincidence that the worst regulated countries have the highest amount of fatalities or severe injuries.
