Thats why being a producer/engineer and having your own set up is great. As long as you build a name and people demand your sound , work ethic, and quality you will have no problem having a steady work flow. They only down fall is staying current and keeping up with whats new.
^just gotta make sure people pay you up front and don't play no games, in theory the studio guys can make more bread than the rappers as long as they don't pull the great exposure for you line broke rappers try to pull to get free shit.

I have a solid setup, i need to put it to more use aside from my own personal enjoyment never really tried to make any money off the stuff i do at home.

it's not sad that they have a job. to me it's sad that they're sellin these kids a dream. i'm 34yrs old so I know whats what. someone like Quinn tho who has been a fixture since the 90's to me thats sad. becuz that means he aint handlin his business(finances) but i remember being in the barbershop in the sco and a rapper had to ask the barber to let him slide becuz he didn't have any money. the rapper is pretty well known.

(empty room turn into a recording studio) But got access to what ever if needed. Why pay the extra money for another spot lol. I dont got no kids running around lol. To me its way more comfortable atmosphere and artist think so to. It works to my benefit because I've had people come here and be like "hes got a home studio" then leave saying "Why was we wasting are money at that other studio" lol. Kind of changes there perception of what studios really are and that its the person behind the boards ya feel me.

i can see that especially when alot of commercial studios are operated by interns who hardly know how to use the equipment or know the dynamics of the room they are working in.

Some people just want that big studio feel. My folks works at a studio in the Bay Area. They keep all the old boards for looks so the dummies keep coming and spending. They rarely use them. They run the speakers.LOL. It all is in the mic set-up, in my opinion. A home studio can produce quality. But from my experience, 90% of artists can't grasp what a real mix is. They come with a little beat on a cd, want you to load it, and record over it. Then they expect it sound like a Jay-Z track, quality wise.

Your right about that. But there is a reason they come back to my lab. I just make sure its mixed to there satifaction or other wise they trust me to do what I have to.
As an engineer you do as the client wishes. I remember sitting in on a couple sessions and trying make suggestions and the artist thinking he had it all figured out. I asked if he could get the beat tracked from the producer and he said it was already mixed and mastered. After, my dude told that is why he does what they want.

Bingo ! Thats why I stress the fact to all my clients..if your buying beats from other producers be sure to get them track out so I can give you the best mix. You would be surprised on how many beat makes and artist dont do that or even know what "Track out the beat " or "Consolidate" means.
We should be charging for this game!lol My bad, I should because you already are.

I wonder how many siccness producers and artists are sponging this little but important piece of knowledge and or wondering what the fuck we are talking about.lol

If I were to do it again I would record all the vocals and do some minor editing, send all the tracks to be mixed and mastered together, and pick up my master.
Artists/managers shouldn't have to hover over the engineer when he is doing his thing. That is what you pay them for.

But then again I am about the business, not the show like so many are.

I would love it if cats would actually write raps/songs about REAL struggles like this.. tired about hearing about dope, hoes, weight, pit bulls, etc... just some real music about real life would be coo.

Unfortunately people like the lies and story telling. Regular working people are the majority in society so you would think people would relate to those topics.
