http://www.nbcbayarea.com/sports/fo...ck-Crabtree-Also-Has-Nightmare-Potential.html

Saturday night was like Christmas morning for 49er fans, as Texas Tech wide receiver Michael "No Way Does He Fall To The Tenth Pick" Crabtree fell to the tenth pick and was instantly nabbed by San Francisco. The Raiders passed on the "draft's top receiver", in what is being seen as Oakland's most generous gift to San Francisco since the Dru Bell/E-40 remix of "I Got Five On It".

Crabtree caught an astonishing 41 touchdown catches over the last two seasons at Texas Tech, and and also won the Biletnikoff award for the nation's top receiver -- both seasons. He was the most productive receiver in the NCAA two years in a row. He's even the cover boy for EA Sports' "NCAA Football 2010". Is there anything that Michael Crabtree can't do?

Evidently so, and that's why nine other teams passed on him. For one, Crabtree couldn't run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, then cancelled his Texas Tech Pro Day workout. The culprit was a stress fracture in one of his feet, and he's since had a screw surgically implanted into his foot. Feet requiring surgically-implanted screws are often a bad omen for a young professional athlete. Plus, well, teams don't really actually know how fast he can run.

"I think when you look at the film, you see a guy who has a different speed," Coach Singletary said at a press conference immediately following the pick. "I don’t know how fast he is. I just know that when he catches the ball, there’s separation there."

That's some great analysis, coach! Who does your due diligence, Bernie Madoff?

More potential red flags popped up when the Cleveland Browns nixed Crabtree from their draft board. Tony Grossi's Cleveland.com blog notes that Crabtree "brought a diva attitude on his visit to the (Browns') club facility," and that "Crabtree was described by some in the building as "not nice.""

But the most disturbing aspect of Michael Crabtree was pointed out by Coach Singletary himself in the post-draft press conference. "We sat down and talked, and I said, ‘What is your hobby? What is one of your hobbies?’," Coach said, describing his one-on-one with Crabtree. "I’m really into fashion. I like designing things.’ And I’m looking at him, so I said, ‘Wait a minute, hold on. Fashion? Wait a minute now. How can this, what do you mean fashion?’ He kind of broke it down a little bit. But, he’s really into clothes."

"Really into fashion"? "Really into clothes"? Is that what you want out of an NFL player? Or does that just validate the "diva" label?

If Crabtree doesn't work out as a receiver, he can at least recommend to Singletary a nice pair of pants to pull down at halftime.

It's all true though...I listened to the interview with Crabtree where he talks about how much he likes fashion.

He said it was the hardest part of his day...picking out what he's gonna wear.

Yeah Tony I don't give a shit what he does off the field as long as this guy is scoring TDs. LOL you are something, you are a diva yourself, a Madden Diva who can analyze players just because you play a videogame.

If fashion is the kids thing, so what. San Fran needs someone to bring a swag back to the organization. If he does that have "I`m a superstar" mentality, hopefully it`s more along the lines of a diva named Deon Sanders. We don`t need another Owens.

One thing can be said though, he won`t have a hard time deciding what to where come Sunday. I could really care less wtf he wears during the other 6 days. As long as he performs on the field, let him dress like Rodman if that`s what he wants to do.

Well that's the point...you don't know what type of person he's gonna be.

The draft is already a crap shoot as it is...why take more of a risk if you don't have to.

lol u for real?? how long has Smith been in the league now???? since 05..... get outta here with that..... Smith didnt do shit as starter his rookie season but throw what.. 1 TD?!? and in 06 his TD to INT ratio was equal.... J. Russell at least threw more TDs than INTs in his first full season... Niners gave up on Smith dunno why yal havent.. get outta here
See thats why your thinking is stupid. 05 was his rookie season, 06 is the ONLY legitimate season hes had. 07 he only really played 3 healthy games. 08 he didnt even play? Is it that fucking hard to understand.

Ok if smith is a bust russell is too since he sucked last year.

^ ha so how many years you gonna give the kid til he's officially called a bust????is he actually even gonna start for your squad this year???? russell and smith are in 2 different draft clases.. dunno why Russell is even being compared to Smith... Russells first season as starter he threw 13 TDs 8 INTs and finished off the season pretty strong... dunno how that makes him a bust????? in 07 he held out and didnt even start a game until the end of the season.. His first time seeing the field was when he came in against the broncos and had a pretty good outing... dunno why J.Russ is being labeled a bust already? when he hasn't been great and neither has he been horrible.. unlike Smith across the bay
