Hot! Snoop Dogg and MTV team up for gun control campaign

Seventeen years ago, gangsta rap took a dangerous turn when countless West Coast rappers began feuding with countless East Coast rappers. While the focus was on Tupac Shakur and his cohorts at Death Row Records against The Notorious B.I.G. and his Bad Boy Records associates, several other people were involved. Jay-Z’s name was pulled into the situation.

However, the focal point ended up being Snoop Dogg, as he soon ended up in a longstanding feud with Suge Knight. Dr. Dre left Death Row Records in the midst of the feud, leaving Snoop to battle on his own. Shootings led to the death of both Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. and it was enough for Snoop Dogg to change his style up.

Recently, Snoop Dogg has been a strong advocate of gun control. People in Chicago are senselessly dying every day and, of course, there was the massacre in Connecticut. Snoop Dogg already was pushing his “No Guns Allowed” single with Drake. Now, Snoop Dogg and MTV have teamed up for a new campaign.

Snoop Dogg and MTV have teamed up for Jewelry for a Cause to sell bracelets made from illegal guys from the buyback program in Newark, New Jersey. Following the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, these bracelets will be available to purchase for $40 from the MTV website. In anticipation of the upcoming campaign, Snoop Dogg released an official statement about the upcoming initiative.

“It’s a movement we want generations to recognize, embrace, and get behind. We’ve seen a lot of senseless acts of violence involving guns recently—too many have lost their lives, too many families have been destroyed. Like my friends at MTV, I want to be a part of the change that will help bring peace,”
