what kind of character should i make?
You should make a character that has very low charisma, complains about everything then spends 400 hours minimum in the wasteland complaining about how shitty said wasteland is.

Can't wait for updates, "omg I can't even knock over bowling ball pins with a bowling ball, literally unplayable"

i think now that ive mostly digested all the crafting stuff and work benches and all that, and the new pip boy and dialog and combat. it's going to be a lot smoother. now i just gotta figure out how to recharge my power armor lol. i already upgraded most of it to Model B. i focused on perception and tbh the 8perception sniper perk isnt even that good i shoulda went 6 int and got the science perk right away. oh well, game is cool so far

I cant battle big enemies for shit, i'm spending all my caps on ammo then run out of ammo very quickly. Then no caps and no ammo. 24 hours in LvL 17
U got a bunch of ammo u don't use? Sell that. Or if u have some drained fusion cores sell those since merchants will buy them for the same amount as a full one. So if you have a fusion core that's about to run out, 17/100, sell it for caps instead of draining it to zero. Ur settlement/s can be a good source of caps too if u set it up so there is a surplus of food and water (u can make a lot from selling bottled water).

yeah didn't even think to sell guns and ammo I don't use. lol i'm carrying like 15 different guns that are just sitting. I use maybe 5 different guns on the regular.
I thought the mini nukes would be more destructible. I dropped 3 on a Super Mutant tower and didn't kill 1.

Where do you collect caps from your settlements? Or do they auto deposit? Modified 10mm is my shit.
At your work bench.

Walk up to it and press Square for Transfer. You should have categories Junk, Weapons, Aid, Apparel, Misc. Any caps generated by your settlement will be put under Junk or Misc, can't remember which. All surplus of food and water automatically goes into your work bench too, under Aid.

As for your settlements depositing caps, I'm not sure if you need to build one of those scrapper work benches or not, and have a person assigned to it. But honestly getting caps from my settlement has always been minimal, maybe 150 caps here and there. I mostly make caps by selling bottled water which you'll get deposited to your work bench if you have a water purifier or two (I posted steps a couple pages ago).

I have three of the big water purifiers at Sanctuary Hills so I'm getting 25 bottles of water at least every game day, so usually after I do a long mission I go back and there will be 50+ which I then sell to that Clara merchant who is always at Sanctuary Hills and in the rare times she's not I'll sell to the stores that I built at Sanctuary Hills (although they normally only have a few hundred caps total).

Another trick is if you and your companion are fully loaded in inventory when your out doing a mission or whatever and can't carry any more junk, command your companion to pick something up and they will, even though their inventory is fully loaded. You can then have them end up carrying like 500 pounds of shit. Then go back to your home base, unload everything into your work bench (except for shit you actually want to keep, I have a safe in home I keep all my personal guns and armor), then either sell all the extra guns and armor and keep the junk there in the work bench for the materials during crafting.

like 9 1/2 hours gameplay ive mostly just been messing wtih the settlement stuff havent even made it to diamond city yet lol. i went and did some quest for some robots level 11 now... bout to head to diamond city finally
Yeah that's how most of us did it. I put in easily 20 hours before doing much at all. In fact, after so many hours put in I only have 6 completed Main Quests right now which is crazy. It says I have like 32 completed missions though but they are almost all side quests (probably almost all settlement quests that Preston or whomever tells u to do). So much to do in this game

Lol I'm still running around with a pipe pistol with a scope
The .45 pipe pistol is dope I still fuck with that. Pistols in general are my shit. I got a legendary .44 named "Rick Grimes" that is my go to weapon. Does 114 damage fully modded, plus I have a couple of the pistol perks (can't remember which exactly, something like 20% more damage for non-automatic pistols).

Usually what I carry:
.50 sniper rifle fully modded
.44 pistol
.45 pistol
Laser rifle (Righteous Authority)
Combat Shotgun
gauss rifle

Some weapons will be capped until you get all four levels of gun nut perk, which the final one unlocks on level 39 (I'm level 38 just eying that motherfucker lol), and Science perks for energy weapons.

Make sure each settler is assigned to crop food, once there is a big surplus of food and water people and the defense is greater than the sum of food & water they will come. Also have some extra beds.

The total amount of settlers is also tied into your charisma level. So if your Charisma is 7 you can have 17 people, Charisma 8 will be 18 people. Also, at a random point of a game week it checks whatever your state are so it during this random time you have Charisma effects from wearing +1 Charisma clothes and maybe beer or whatever else can increase charisma, then you will get a lot more too, I think the absolute max is 42 settlers per settlement (pretty hard to actually figure out how/when to do that though, I'm not exactly sure how it works).

Starting to get the hang of building shit thought you could just attach a wire from dumbass deep to the water purifier what's the point of the connections and switches
Yeah not only that u put those switches on the outside of your house and each one will provide power in a radius. So you can just put a few conduits on the outside of the walls of your house with a wire connected to one (and then wires to connect to each other) and it will provide power for everything inside your house like light bulbs, jukebox, etc. That way you don't need wires all running through your house or whatever.
