Why? It's not like he's been doing anything over the past several years with how poor his health had been.
Whether or not you like him is irrelevant. He did a lot of great things over his lifetime. He did some bad things. Overthrew a ruthless dictatorship. Stuck between two of the biggest world powers at the height of the cold war. Devastating economic fall after the collapse of the Soviet Union and hard sanctions by the US, and still the island nation continued on despite the massive disadvantages, often as a result of the struggle of the people. He outlasted 11 US presidents, numerous assassination plots. Fascinating life. Loved and hated.
There is a lot about Cuba and Castro that is really good and quite remarkable. There are many policies that weren't good at all and I disagreed with. Still, people should at least recognize the incredibly difficult task Cuba had, with the US adamantly opposed to them for the sole purpose of being Socialist and even worse after the collapse of the Soviet Union, so little support on top of harsh sanctioning placed on them which really made it impossible to progress much at all. Which made some of what they did accomplish that much more admirable.

Maybe the fact that my dad and uncle were Cuban political prisoners before they were teenagers? Got shipped off to the states and never got to see any of their family save for their sister who was fortunate enough to make it here on a raft with her 2 daughters.
I've spent my entire life around people that did time in Cuba as kids/teenagers so I don't care how remarkable of a man anyone thinks he is. Him being dead is great, and hopefully Raul joins him soon. So whether anyone cares for him and finds him interesting is irrelevant to me.

You know it is not my place to comment about how you feel about him and I am sure if his actions fucked with anyone or their loved ones they will feel the same as you.
I know when anybody makes it personal against you or people you care about you have every justification to hate them and wish for and celebrate their death. So this question is to others but feel free to chime in.
What I am trying to understand these past couple of weeks is how people have the gullibility of thinking it would have been better if "the other" was in power or if "she won the vote".
Like really if it wasn't fidel then it would have been Batista.
And now with trump winning the election it seems like everybody is begging to have military hawk wholesale Wall Street whore hillary to have won instead.
Even in anarchist forums everybody has become such a fucking pansy.
First they celebrate the protest against trump for a good few days talkin about how high schoolers are leaving class in protest and how awesome it is that they have a voice.
I said what is the reason for celebration? You think these people are suddenly free thinkers? No. Ask them why they are leaving class and they will say because Trump is a racist or to get out of class. Everybody is still walking forward blindly and I don't know if it will ever change. And yeah my shit got down-voted quick.
Now, it is all about the fascist Trump. Yes I see huge parallels between trump and hitler. Yes he is a fascist but do you really want the alternative? If it wasn't heil trump it would be heil hillary and this has always been the bottom line.
And it won't change.
Look at the environments that have given rise to people like Hitler, Batista, Trump, Fidel--it has always played out like this because these forces are born from it.
And the most depressing part is this foundation seems to be inherent to our primal instincts and is as closely linked to our survival as it seems to be to our demise.
