Well i finally got my new computer and my machine, analog factory etc and absolutly nothing works.

Mashine keeps prompting me to activate the software and will not let me use the software theres a 330mb upgrade that take like an hour to dl only to not run.

My soundcard will not work with my computer even after trying to install the current driver on the fucking thing 3 times. recognizes it as my primary sound card yet no sound. I've been at this shit all day, even had dell remotly go into my computer from fuckin india and i still have no sound. I hope to death when my saffire 40 comes I can at least get some sound coming out of my computer.

Only thing that this computer is good for right now is the internet, i'm really pissed:mad:

fucking windows vista, guess i'm a member of the shoulda got a mac club

I've found that most of the time when people are whining about Windows, their problems aren't even related to it. Just recently a friend of mine had to replace his power supply and bought some cheap piece of shit off ebay. After crying his ass off about how much Windows sucks, he tried another power supply and his pc has magically been running perfectly ever since.

I don't know your situation but don't be so quick (and ignorant) to assume the problem is your OS. Chances are it's not. Make sure you've got the correct drivers installed and the all the configuration settings are correct as well. If you're using pirated/bootleg software, you shouldn't complain about it not working. If you're using legal software, contact the companies support forum/faqs/etc.

I think everything will end up working but i'm iffy on the sound card becuase i had the dell people poking around inside my computer remotly and they couldnt get any sound to come out on my end. the unit is pretty old but i reinstalled the audiophile on my old computer and it works just fine on there. I installed the current drivers and no luck according to the wizard everything shoulda worked and it didn't. I have another interface coming and should be here in the next few days, hopefully i'll have better luck getting that one to work on my new computer.

the native instrument people assure me that my maschine isn't fried and that vista causes some problems with initail installation and if i reinstall the software and the latest drivers and follow a couple tips from their website i should be ok, i sure hope so.

i want to be up and running so i can get to learning the ins and outs of the maschine, sonar, the saffire 40 and all this other shit i picked up. talk about a learning curve!

Maybe you should have downgraded to XP?

Or partition your drive so your audio apps run in XP and use your Vista shit for the internet and other general purpose type shit. Dunno.

Yes, you can. You just don't know how. Google it, I'm sure you'll find a guide that can help you. I downgrade from Vista to XP for people all the time, even on those excuses for PCs known as Dells.

You can always go to a computer shop that builds computers, tell them what you need or want the computer to be capable of doing and they'll build it for you. Websites like ibuypower.com allow you to "build" your own computer, but they do the actual building.

Your problems are likely hardware-related and that's why you made a major mistake buying a Dell. You can switch to Mac if you want, but they are no more capable than a good PC - no matter what it is you're trying to use the computer for - but they are a lot more expensive.

Can't XP only utilize up to 3 or 4 gigs of ram though?

See I been thinking about buying a new desktop and I want to partition one to run XP and do all my audio related stuff from that. And just use Vista to fuck around on the internet and word processessing. But most new decent comps come with like standard 6 gigs of ram. So I don't think XP can even utilize all those 6 gigs. This is what I heard, I could have heard wrong. Maybe there's a workaround.

what's the specs on your pc? another thing is why are you trying to get our soundcard to work when you got saffire pro 40? Just use that as your soundcard...

OK, I just did a little quick research. XP 64 bit versions can support up to 128gigs of ram. That's more than enough. haha
RAM limitations are generally due to the motherboard. There are some that can only support up to 1GB of RAM (old ass ones, though) and there are some that can support 256GB of RAM and more. I'm only using 4GB right now and that NEVER gets fully used, no matter what I'm doing on the computer. Going above 6GB would probably be a waste of RAM anyway.

the saffire pro 40 wont work either, i think there is something wrong with it because it wont even power on. its been nothing but one headache after another. Focusrite actually took down their 64 bit drivers off their website so i'm 100% fucked now, i have no use for this computer. can't even maximize my porno viewing with this bullshit computer, porno with no sound is like jerkin it with no lube! I'm actually on the phone with dell trying to take the computer back or to downgrade to the 32 bit versian or vista or get a full refund and buy a mac

specs are intel i7 2.7 ghz per core, 6 gigs ddr3 ram i hate to give this computer up for an overpriced mac thats not even 1/3 as powerful as this computer but i guess i'm stuck way to go bill gates

^I was talking about windows :ermm:

i dunno where your hangups with dell are coming from. I've had several dell computers that never gave me any problems. Its the OS thats causing me problems not the label on my tower

The dell folks have actually been pretty damn good to me considering my frustrations have had me go off on a couple of them in the customer service department. They are sending me a free copy of Vista 32 bit to try to help me resolve my issues. if the shit still doesn't work then i'll join you in the dell roastathon.

I agree with Fatal - Dells are not the bizzo...

Custom-made PC is the way to go

Lastly, if you choose to use a PC for audio work - dedicate it for stricly audio; no internet, gaming, iTunes, or any other non-DAW apps on it....

there is 5 1/8in inputs on the back as a last resort just to get sound before trying the OS downgrade. I have an 1/8 in adapter to trs on a splitter to my speakers. I tried to plug my speakers into all of those but it didnt work either. i'm not 100% sure what those are for but they arent registered as a playback device on my computer lol. I'm assuming they are there for surround sinc there is 5 jacks. shit didnt work though, i'm pretty close to joining the fuck dell bandwagon at this point haha.

Honestly im just playing their fucking game with me so i can return the thing without getting taxed a restocking fee, i'm pretty confidant my shit still isnt gonna work. Im not too sure about building my own PC though, wouldnt that cost me more? I'd love the same components in a computer that actually worked. Maybe some of yall could give me the scoop on how i can do this. otherwise I'll probably shell out a couple more hundred and cop an Imac.

If i get the Mac i might get stuck with sonar though because sweetwater is iffy on returning software eventhough i never opened the shit. How are your mac folks experiences with bootcamp?
