do you seriouly consider them champions like you would jordan, bird, russell, etc etc...because basically what they did was pay for those rings, they took a pay cut whcih essentially means they put those millions in salary cut into the purchase of these rings...i dont feel theyre legit, they never led their own teams to a finals, instead they piggibacked onto sasquatch oneall and kobe "it was consentual" bryants team...to me they are the equivalent of aRod going to the yankees, players who are good players, but not good enough to lead their teams to championships, would malone even have had a chance with utah if it wasnt for stockton, what did the sonics do with payton? what did the bucks do with payton...maybe this brings out the true players in them, role players.

if im early on this ring talk, think twice, all the lakers had to do was beat their only competition which was the spurs, the wolves arent up to their level, the pacers and pistons i doubt will get one win against them.

You're right, they won't but I'm curious to see who these Laker-haters would compare to Jordan, et al. askG seems quite content to split hairs about woulda, shoulda coulda but in the end, when the rings are in place, he won't have any choice but to admire Malone and Payton and bow down to the LAKERS.

Nobody compares to Jordan....and I do consider what Malone and Payton did some sellout shyt. Who gives a fuck if u never won a ring with the same team u been with for a while? Look at Reggie Miller, he been with the Pacers for 17 years, never won a ring, but will never leave them and will keep trying.

PAYTON GOT TRADED TO THE FUCKEN BUCKS, SEATTLE ACTUALLY DID HIM DIRTY, I DONT THINK THERES ANYTHING WRONG WITH WHAT PAYTON DID, MALONE ON THE OTHER HAND COULDA STAYED IN UTAH BUT HIS MAIN MAN JOHN STOCKEN RETIRED SO THAT PROBABLY LED HIM TO LEAVE.

I KNOW THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HATE KOBE BUT HES GONNA BE THE CLOSEST THING TO JORDAN. JORDAN DIDNT HAVE THE GREATEST SHOT PERCENTAGE, THATS WHAT EVERYONE FORGETS. AND PERSONNALY I THINK JORDANS COMPETITION WASNT THE GREATEST BACK THEN. KOBES GONNA HAVE 4 RINGS AND HES WHAT 25, HE STILL HAS A LOT OF TIME LEFT IN HIS CAREER TO WRITE CHAPTERS WITHOUT SHAQ.

Jordan didn't have great competition? Either you're not thinking right, or you don't know much about basketball.

And Kobe will have 4 rings for one reason, and one reason only...Shaq.

We'll see what Kobe does without him...assuming he's not in prison.

Exactly. Payton wanted to end his career in Seattle.

Both Payton and Malone went to the finals against the Bulls, the best team of all time, and played on the Olympics (back when the best players played). Both Payton and Malone are considered amongst the top all-time at the position they play.

I hate the lakers with a passion, but I do believe Payton/Malone deserve a ring.

Jordan didnt have a good shot percentage? Thats a damn lie! When Jordan retired from the Bulls, his career field goal percentage was over 50%. Then when he retired from the Wizards it dropped to 49%. So how is it not a good percent? Even in his rookie season he average 28.2 ppg and shot like 52%.

There will never be another jordan, nor does any one compare to him. So ya'll should just get off of kobe's nuts already! And as far as Malone goes, he was one of my fav. players growin up, but if you dont think him and payton sold out to win the rings then your a moron. I agree with askG 100%

^^^How did Payton sell out when he got traded to the Bucs? It's not like he left his team, he was traded and put into a position to either A). Stay with the Bucs or B). Go to another team and try to achive one of his life long goals of winning a championship

^^ I Never said he sold out when he got traded to the bucs. IM sayin is he only went to the lakers cause he knew with shaq and kobe he could win a ring. Just like they said earlier, it's the same thing as A-ROD going to the Yanks. Lakers got their own lil fuckin allstar team, this shit is ridiculous

Nah, hell no man. You can't compare A-ROD to Payton's situation. Payton got one, MAYBE two years left in his career. He paid his dues. He's been playin since what, 89-90? He wanted to end his career in Seattle, but they got rid of him.

Just a few GP stats
Named All-NBA First-Team in 1998, 2000, All-NBA Second Team in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999 and All-NBA Third Team in 2001
Selected to the NBA All-Defensive First Team eight consecutive seasons (1994-2001)
Named Defensive Player of the Year in 1996 and was the first guard to win the award since Michael Jordan in 1987-88
Selected to the NBA All-Star Team seven straight seasons (1994-98, 2000-01) and was voted as a starter in 1997 and 1998
Member of the gold medal-winning 1996 and 2000 U.S. Men's Olympic Teams
Scored his 15,000th career point vs. Philadelphia on 3/19/01, becoming the 88th player in league history to reach the milestone and just the eighth player in NBA history to compile 15,000 points, 6,000 assists and 1,000 steals.
Played in the 1996 NBA Finals against the Chicago Bulls
Set an NBA Playoffs record with 13 three-point attempts in one half against the Houston Rockets in Game 1 of the 1996 Western Conference Semifinals
Named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 1990-91 after averaging 7.2 ppg and 6.4 apg

Oh Well I guess the smartest thing for him to do next is to retire with a ring. I dont know but I still love the old payton/kemp combo from the ninties. I still hate the lakers tho :)
