Report: 49ers hiring Steve Logan for a job on offensive staff

New 49ers coach Jim Tomsula is hiring one of his old NFL Europe co-workers, one who will easily be a better interview.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea, the 49ers are expected to hire Steve Logan for a position on the offensive side of the ball. It’s not known whether it’s as coordinator or a position coach.

Logan was Tomsula’s offensive coordinator with the Rhein Fire in 2006.

Logan has been the head coach at East Carolina, and an offensive coordinator at Boston College. He was a running backs coach for the Buccaneers under Raheem Morris.

The 49ers kept running backs coach Tom Rathman and quarterbacks coach Geep Chryst, and they’re hiring Tony Sparano to coach tight ends, with Chris Foerster coming to coach the offensive line.

That doesn’t leave many chairs for Logan to fill.

He’s been out of coaching since leaving the Bucs after the 2011 season, and works for a radio station in Raleigh, N.C. in his spare time. (I’ve been a guest with him, occasionally talking football, and he’s quite entertaining). So at least Tomsula will have a guy with some media savvy on his staff.

The scout is returning to the sideline.

The 49ers will hire Scott Brown, 62, their Midwest regional scout, to be their defensive line coach, FOX Sports reported.

Prior to his three years as a 49ers’ scout, Brown spent 31 seasons as a defensive line coach at six colleges: Arizona State (2011), Colorado State (2008-10), Duke (1996-07), Minnesota (1992-94), TCU (1983-91) and Southwest Texas State (1980-82). At Arizona State, he worked for former 49ers head coach Dennis Erickson.

Brown will assume the spot held by head coach Jim Tomsula since 2007. It’s likely Tomsula will remain involved in coaching the defensive linemen. The 49ers have hired Aubrayo Franklin, 34, an 11-year NFL veteran, as an assistant defensive line coach.

I don't even know what the fuck you're talking about. The bet is simple, I'll accept if you don't post in the Seahawks thread, that's it.

Defensive end Darnell Dockett will stay in the NFC West next season, signing with the San Francisco 49ers, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, announced Thursday on Twitter.

Dockett signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the 49ers, with $4 million being paid in the first season and $2 million guaranteed, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Dockett's 11-year run with the Arizona Cardinals ended after last Friday when he was released by the team. The Cardinals were open to re-signing him at a lower rate than the $6.8 million he was scheduled to earn in 2015.

Dockett, 33, missed all of the 2014 season after tearing his ACL during training camp last August. Before last season, Dockett missed two games in 10 seasons.

He finished his career with the Cardinals with 459 tackles, 40.5 sacks, 12 fumble recoveries, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions.

His three sacks in Super Bowl XLIII tied Reggie White for most in a Super Bowl.
