After weeks of speculation the answer finally comes this Sunday when Zack Bronson returns to the starting lineup. Bronson has been out since breaking his foot against the Seattle Seahawks on October 14 and his return should give the much maligned 49ers defense a much needed boost.
“Zack is going to give us a tremendous boost to have Zack back, emotionally and on the field. Emotionally his being in the huddle is a big deal and the way he’s able to plan and make adjustments and control the secondary back there being that he’s our most experienced guy that’s going to really help,” said Jim Mora. “Since he’s been out, we’ve been playing musical chairs with our safeties because of injuries and our one constant has been Tony (Parrish) and he’s kind of brand new to the scheme and he’s done a great job of kind of taking over. But I think it’ll really help Tony to have Zack back because now some of that burden of making calls and adjustments can go right back to Zack which Zack does really well and Tony can just fly around.”
While Bronson is healthy enough to return to the field and the starting lineup, there was some question about the length of his absence causing him to be rusty. Mora did not think that would be an issue and neither did Bronson.
“I understand that I’ve missed a lot of time but at this point I can’t be second guessing, I have to be sharp, there’s no tomorrow. We have to line up and go forward. One play at a time and make sure we’re communicating well and at the right spot,” Bronson said. “I’ve played in this League, this is my sixth year, and I understand what’s going on as far as game time speed it will be a little different so my thing is just to be a little patient and let the game come to me and just do my job.”
Bronson’s job takes on a greater importance Sunday. As the 49ers centerfielder he makes the calls for the secondary and will be instrumental in the defense of the New York offense.
“They’re moving the ball, they’re winning games. That’s all that matters at this point, winning and they’re going to do what they do best,” added Bronson. “Running or passing the ball; getting the ball to Shockey or Amani. They’re going to do what they do best and we’ve going to have to be ready to defend that.”
