I was in denial for a long time. niggas saying Ya Boy don't rep the bay etc. Thats like me moving to Idaho for two years, and reppin Boise....

However, the song is real radio friendly, top 40 type shit. He could blow off of this if promoted right. But he would most def alienate his core fan base.

Yeah, cause we all know how much his core fan base (the bay) supports (buys) records :eyecross:

Man can't live on The Bay alone. There's a big market out there

That's what I think a lot of people got confused. He doesn't really have a "core" fan base. People think that he gets so much love in the bay but he really doesn't. He probably made more of a name for himself being on Black Wall St. then he did while he was with Done Deal. He definately has more fans, made more/better connections, and gotten more exposure since he left. He let's it be known that he's from the bay, what more could you want? He's livin in LA, living the LA lifestyle and has basically jumpstarted his career in LA. I aint really trippin off of where he's from as long as he makes good music. I thought the "We Run LA" song was super whack the first time I heard it, but its kind of grown on me. ESPECIALLY after seein so many females in clubs in LA/Beverly Hills/Hollywood get down to that shit.

Peete and CatchmeOnI5: you guys made some good points.

I'm diggin the song, because I know what he is trying to do. Similar to his alliance at one point with K-fed. He is trying to get known on a national level. I could see the nigga performing this song on Ellen lol real spit.

lol @ callin him a turf hopper. Like that takes away from the man's talent.

If you don't like the song, then say that (which you did). Complainin about all that extra shit that don't got nothin to do with the actual recording coming out of the speakers is passive aggressive hatin.

You know I was initially kinda disappointed when I saw Yb featured on this. A few months back that is. But the song isn't even his, he's featured on it. Yea he has really gone hollywood, but he's doing what it takes to make it big. Let's be real,NO Bay Area rapper is gonna hit it off with the mainstream by staying in the Bay. You gotta leave. YB is doing what needs to be done. I'm not a supporter of that Rockstar shit, but gimmicks are what sell. I'm not a fan of the "We Run L.A." shit, but I think cats are looking at it the wrong way. He's not Turf Hopping cuzz of this song because he ain't claiming LA. All he did was feature on the song.

I'm not mad at this song at the least bit. Ya Boy has been in LA for damn near 5 years now and this is what he is feeling. Plus when he says "We run LA" I assumed that he meant running around LA shopping and doing things of that nature. I know he is not foolish enough to think he is running a place he has no roots at.

i think the song is nice. the group whose song it is is named Doc Hollywood so it's not like he named his song We Run LA. Im sure a lot of you guys are too gangsta to appreciate the song though.

I don't think what you're saying can be compared. 40's put years of work in, to where his name and the bay are synonomous. Ya Boy put in a couple years in the bay, but left for greener pastures musically in LA. In my opinion, he's had far more success establishing himself in LA then he would have in the bay. Who knows though, maybe I'm wrong.
