Anyways i was just wonderin who else here gambles on sports it would be cool to chop it up with people on here bout the spreads and who they think is gonna cover and shit and could post up various stats and shit, if its one thing ive learned from bettin on sports its that if you do your homework and research and only bet when something good comes along you make more money from this shit than you can your real job lol.

I used to gamble out of control through this local I had. I worked at this grocery store and me and this guy were always talkin about sports and predicting winners. He would come up to me every saturday and sunday with a list of teams he bet on. I didnt think much of it, but after me and him went through a few personal bets I got hungry. I started placing bets through him for the NFL, maybe a game or two every Sunday. Soon after I moved onto College Football and the NBA. I was actually doing great untill I started placing bets on NBA games, that shit killed me. It got so out of hand, me and this guy were betting every day on NBA games, if there was only 2 being played that day, it didnt matter if we liked one of them or not, we forced bets on both. The thing about it all is, the minimum bet on each game was $50 per. So in actuality, I was betting aproximatley $2,000-$3,000 per week. Not only that, but I was taking home around $200/w from my job. Luckily, although in the end I lost more then I won, I still maintained, I was able to support myself with the $200/w minus my gambling depts, so I wasnt losing all that bad.

See at the beginning, I was bringing around $200/w from gambling NFL and some college, thats not including the money from my job. On a single night I would bet $500 worth of NBA games knowing damn well if I lost them all it would take more then two paychecks to pay that off, but because I never lost like that, I kept going. You lost SLOWLY. I would go like 4-5 one day, 3-3 one day. (take into account 3-3 is losing because of the dues). What everyone needs to know that betting on sports is generally not a good idea. Clearly the odds are against you, otherwise there wouldnt be any bookies in buisness. Through my time of gambling I went through 2-3 different locals, all of them telling me they bring home thousands of dollars every season. They say very few people end a season as winners. The only people that win all the time, are the people that do as you described. Do extensive research, and bet on only go with your top few picks.

I couldnt have said it better myself. Like I said, I was forcing bets. I got so hungry, I couldnt settle for just 1 game a day. Typically my day would go as follows. On Sunday I would place a few morning bets, only the ones I really liked. Weather I won or lost I was never satisfied so I would thumb through the games and pick more. I DID do research on alot of them, but for a good part of the time, I went with what I knew. There were a few times when I would place $200 or more on a single game, I usually won all of those because research pays off. I rarely resisted a game.

askG: I didnt lose that much money. Thats how much money I was gambling. For example. If there are 5 games in one night, ill bet all 5 at $50 a pop. Thats a total of $250 that I gambled, but I didnt lose that much. The $2,000-$3,000 isnt a week in week out deal, there were sometimes I would only bet $500-$1,000 or maybe less. But on a big week, where there is NFL and NBA, damn im all up in it.

i be gambling all the time

dice---> 4-5-6 and craps
cards--> poker and this mexican game "concian"(sp)
rooster fights
baseball games

not as much as before though i remember a few years back we would gamble at anything we could think of. i live out in the country so we would dig holes in the ground and do some golfing at $20 a hole, we would shoot free throws (best of ten) for a bill, we were so hooked on gambling that a group of us would go to the mall and flip quarters in the store to see who would pay for colognes, clothes, and jewelry

Im pretty heavy into NFL & NBA gambling...You can do hours and hours of research and still lose....There isnt much skill involved in betting its 95% LUCK...The research and shit does help sometimes but LUCK is a major factor....

And for me it wasnt about STackin the $$$$$....I got more hyped about winning 60% of my bets....Cause we all know if your hitting 60% of your bets your a damn good handicapper...So the money wasnt a big deal for me...It was beating the system and being at 60% or higher when the season was over....

Yes, I would not suggest the betting on the NBA. The reason the NBA is such a bad idea is because the lack of importance for a single game. While no one player is thinking about the spread during an actual game, there determination to win is much higher in football and college basketball, due to the few amount of games played, and the effect and importance of losing a single one of them has. In other words, teams in the NFL are going to try alot harder because one loss means a great deal and can determine an outcome early on; while an NBA loss really doesnt mean much of anything untill the actual playoff race begins towards the end of the season. More importantly, a very big reason why you should never bet on the NBA. The entire game acording to the spread is determined by the last 30 seconds of the game in alot of cases (my own personal opinion). For example, team A is favored to win by 8 points against team B. With 45 seconds left in the entire game and team A being up by 10 it should be a win. If only that were true. Players in the NBA have a habbit of thinking they can come back from such a defecit in so little time they will constantly foul the player sending them to the freethrow line over and over again. When the game is clearly over from a win loss point of view, you have all of the players on team A slacking off because its a sure win, while team B makes up 5 more points and kills the entire spread. I have had this happen to me plenty of times. I have won in this fasion, but the moral of this story is to tell you skill in predicting goes out the window when it comes to this. If you do bet on the NBA, stick with your 1-3 point spreads, unless your taking an underdog, then go as high as you want.

In any sport, the main thing your going to want to look at (aside from the obvious) is the MATCHUPS. You can have a great team lose to a horrible team constantly just because they are outmatched in certain positions to the point when it can determine the outcome of a game. Thats something I didnt do very much of in my time with gambling, but it will help your winning percentage alot.

Shark: you ever stay above 60%? I always start out KILLIN in the beginning, then slowly deteriorate through out the season. Total I come at around 50% maybe a little less. I think if I kept it to just my TOP picks, like maybe 1-3 picks per sunday for the NFL, I could reach between 60-70%.

Yeah I get to 60% in the season but holding on to that spot and staying at 60% is a diffrent story....It doesnt last long before im down to 55 to 57% where I just consider anything 59% and below to be a average handicapper...
