It's The Jar Man! Well, this one's a little more obscure, but I'll do my best. X-Clan broke up after '92--Brother J. told THE SOURCE (in '96) that it was just time for them to move on (in so many words), but there were also some rumors that circulated that the X-Clansters were seen cavortin' with white women, which would contradict their pro-black stance, but I don't know how much truth there is to that one...Unfortunately, Sugar Shaft (their D.J.) passed away around '95. R.I.P.

Now, to the best of my knowledge, Brother J. formed another group called THE DARK SUN RIDERS around '95/'96, and they released a CD/cassette under that name ("THE DARK SUN RIDERS featuring Brother J."). The CD got some good, if not great, reviews from both THE SOURCE (who gave it three mics) and RAP PAGES, not to mention a nice review from RAP SHEET (mainly for the production), but as far as I know, the CD didn't really sell that well. Brother J. really didn't sound too different from the way he did with X-Clan, but he also seemed a little bitter--there's a few indirect shots at gangsta rappers (J. calls them "musical comedians") who of course were dominating the scene in '96! If you're a fan, this CD might be worth picking up if you see it cheap somewhere, but the X-Clan stuff is still better overall. I personally prefer their debut (TO THE EAST, BLACKWARDS) but X-ODUS had some cool cuts as well ("I read Gil Scott-Heron/fuck Dr. Seuss!" LOL!)

Not sure what Brother J.'s doing now--last I heard, he was living in New Jersey, and the last new thing I heard him on was the Poor Righteous Teachers' CD NEW WORLD ORDER (also from '96). So whether or not he's still in the game is anyone's guess. As for "that other fool with the ring in his nose," I assume you mean Professor X. He made a very brief appearance on the Cocoa Brothas (formerly Smif-N-Wessun) CD RUDE AWAKENING, but I haven't heard anything from him since. I imagine he's still probably vibing with Islam--he's the son of activist Sonny Carson.

PEACE!

Last I heard Brother J moved to L.A. because the cali sound more suited his style with the P-Funk samples etc. Professor X had a solo, Puss-N-Boots. It was pretty tight there was one posse song with a gang of rappers on it called close The Crackhouse. They filmed the video at a real crackhouse and had a big demonstartion. Dark Sun Riders was a good CD, if you liked the other X-Clan CDs. It basically carried on the sound. Like was said before To The East Blackwards and Xodus are classics.
