A victorious feast of love and courage. Bon Appetit.
San Francisco writer Charles Jolivette is launching his debut novel, Étouffée, after a successful ten-year stint as an independent recording artist. From the stage to the page, Jolivette’s crisp writing style captures the essence of Southern 1940’s living from the opening line. An often overlooked ethnic group, the Louisiana Creoles, find a place within the pages of Étouffée, a heart-warming story of a father raising his daughter after the death of her mother. Étouffée is the unique view into the lives of a family traumatized by death and bound together by their love for food, music and each other.
Jennifer Gordon Grant of BET Networks calls Étouffée, “A story that will put you in touch with your own roots, and something that everyone can enjoy and appreciate! It's a smile waiting to happen."
Author Charles Jolivette is a descendant of the Louisiana Creoles. He released his first project, a book of poetry at the age of 19 and has gone on to perform on the same stages as international sensations Fred Hampton Jr. and Michael Franti. A San Francisco native, Charles works with non-profit organizations and high schools teaching life skills, job training and athletics when he is not writing.
