this seems to be the topic of the net currently.....

would you pay extra to play multiplayer/online games such as madden or call of duty? seems this may actually become a reality...

i for one will not be purchasing the new black ops if this happens...lets face it the single player experience isnt long enough to warrant the cost...MW2 single player experience is ok....but the multiplayer makes it worth the money....EA may start also with madden 11....extra 10.00 to unlock online

how much would you pay to play COD online? if any at all....me personally im not and it really pisses me off that they would ask for more cash after the purchase

think about it...you pay for the game ranging in cost ( 60 for standard and up to 150 for deluxe editions ) then you pay for the internet connection.....then some pay for XBOX LIVE....then DLC.....now add another charge just to play online...some only play 10 hours a week....

so my question is simple......would you pay for multiplayer/online

Nope. Unless they make the single player game $30, and then you pay $30 to unlock the MP component, I won't pay for it again.

Hell, I barely play MP on most of the games I buy at full price as it is.

I was going to make a thread about this but you beat me to it. Recently the makers of COD were talking about doing just that, but I'm of the opinion that multiplayer should be optional, not on the disk, and therefore, should cause the price of the disk to drop. For example, I don't give a shit about RDR online mode, Gears online, etc. Why should I have to pay $65 for features/modes I'm not interested in? We need to start demanding a new price model which will hopefully cause these people to wake up.

That is the reason why I download 90% of the games I play because I'm not that big on online shit. I'm more into just playing the single player mode an that shit is like 10 hours long with alot of games now if that. $60 for a 10 hour game fuck that. $2 verbatims on mines. Thank you internet.

Whats really bullshit is this gots me on the fence about buying "black-ops" which is the only game i'm lookin forward to this year.. Cuz knowing activision, rather then saying they're going to charge for online before the game goes on sale they're gonna wait until they sell 20 million copies and then be like, "Oh by the way now we're gonna charge you for online!" Shady fucks..

A monthly fee? Hell No!!!!

Only way I would pay a one time fee is if the game was discounted to match what the online and game cost together.
Like $50 game and $10 for online.

I refused to buy the COW MW2 multiplayer maps. I mean $60 for the game than $15 for 3 new maps and 2 remakes then they came out with another (If I am correct) that was another $15. So you are now paying a total of $90 for the game and 6 "new" maps and 4 remakes that is ridiculous IMO.

I think that would lead to a lot of lawsuits or atleast I would hope it would. If anything they might say they are gonna start charging for online right before it is released in the hope that most people don't hear till after they either bought it or picked up their pre-order. That way they are covered. Companies are shady like that and employ great lawyers for just such things.

The reason i think there is good possiblilty of them doing this is there have been rumors about the pay for play since before MW2 came out. Activision knows that COD fans have been concerned about this but have yet to reasure fans that this will not happen. Seems like a company who gave 2 shits bout there customers and heard false rumors going around would do there best to squash those rumors and speak on it. But they havn't done that. I think they are thinking to themselves right now, "how can we pull this off?"

it cant be done for normal gamers...if your hardcore than it might work....im not a hardcore gamer...i play about 5-7 hours a week.....if this happens it wouldnt be logical for me at all.....and forget about working on prestige levels

if activision maybe dropped the game price or added incentives to buy online....im not paying money in a fucked up economy to have my ass handed to me by 10 year old tommy and his friends that love to glitch and use nothing but rockets and tubes.....already happens now for free...i wont pay for it

Since nobody has posted the facts about this yet, I will.

EA has already been doing this on their games. Mass Effect 2 had this with their cerebus network. If you buy the game new, you're fine. They include a code on the back of the manual which lets you play online.

Same with NCAA Football 11. If you buy it new, you can play online.

Same with Madden 11 next month. If you buy it new, you can play it online.

However, if you buy the game used, rent it through gamefly or blockbuster etc, or download the game, you have to pay $10 for the code to play online.

Is it bullshit? Yes and no. You're saving money by buying the game used or renting it. Is it going away? Hell no, because people will pay the extra money to play online.

Will Activision and damn near every other company start doing this? Most likely.

The only solution is to buy your games new, pretty much.

little different situation...

activision wants you to buy the game at full price and then pay for a subscription whether its by the game, monthly or annually....not like the 1 time unlocking fee EA is doing

if they did that id just buy a modded xbox360 and play burned games i aint payin extra to play online when it should be free as im shellin out $65 with tax plus the map packs they bring out and make another $15 for some half ass'd and recycled maps the new maps were most likely already made before the game came out i think they would take a huge hit if they did a monthly or annual fee plus for xbox your already payin $50 to play online

Yeah I think this is what Activision wants to do.

They're taking EA's Online Pass to the next level.

I don't really have a problem with EA's OP since I buy the majority of my games new anyway, but Activision can count me out as a customer on new games if they try that shit.

I don't have a problem paying for XBL, but I refuse to pay per game, especially if I don't play the game that much as it is.
