Yeah that set up is fine, but you should use a mixer to route everything, what kind of microphone, exactly?

Where are your *sounds* (kick drums, hi hats, pianos, strings, bells, guitars, pads etc etc etc) coming from? Keyboards? Sound modules/midi controller combo? Soft synths? Save your loot and purchase a used 001, new 001 (digi design has re-released the unit with more plug ins)or a used digi 002r (or 0020

At this point in time I don't suggest a mixer. With a 002r (or 001) you can route everything direct and mix "inside the box". I'm a fan of keeping the signal chain as short as possible which is why I'm not suggesting one.

be cool and next time be more specific in what it is you're trying to do.

CAN YOU PLEASE BE MORE SPECIFIC IN WHAT IT IS YOU'RE TRYING TO RECORD? LIVE DRUMS? LIVE GUITARS AND BASS? CLARINET? BABY GRAND? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO? THE MORE SPECIFICS YOU GIVE THE MORE HELP YOU'LL GET. IF YOU'RE RECORDING VOCALS ONLY YOU ARE COOL WITH YOUR SETUP (EXCEPT YOU SHOULD DROP THE MBOX AND GET A DIGI 001).

^^^^ can you please elaborate on why he *should* get a mixer? Better yet can you elaborate on "flase sounds"?

If he tracks at UNITY GAIN and INSISTS on unity gain what goes IN *WILL* come out.

Coloring (is that what you mean by false sounds?) can be attributed to several things. Bad/faulty cables, 60 cycle hum, bad monitor placement, innacurate monitors, faulty room acoustics......

I'm a fan of keeping the signal chain short as possible going in AND coming out. If your unit has an alt monitor and main out you can route your speakers to that. Your money would be better spent if you snatched an external pre and not a mixer.....Unless you need a grip of inputs or require/want to make music without turning the computer on.

btw whats your budget for all of this? That can help us out with the suggestions.
