TORONTO RAPPER D.O. KICKS FREESTYLE
FOR 8 HOURS 45 MINUTES
by Davey D
Congratulations are in order to Toronto rapper D.O. who has set the Guisness Book of World Records for kicking a Freestyle. This past Saturday at the Dark Knights Music Festival in Ontario, D.O. rhymed for a whooping 8 hours and 45 minutes. He did not repeat a rhyme and kicked pretty much most of his lyrics off the top of the dome. When I spoke with him yesterday he noted that it was grueling but he wanted to rep for Canada and put something in the record books that would be around for a long time. D.O. may have just done that...
However, I have to point out that cats who were around in the late 70s when Hip Hop was starting to evolve, they will recall that cats would rhyme for extremely long periods of time during regular parties. Today most people are used to seeing cats do a set or two that lasts for 30-40 minutes. Back in the early days folks rocked the mic from the time the music clicked on to the time you left. I have old tapes of just myself rhyming for an hour and half non stop... This is not to take away from D.O. accomplishments 'cause 8 hours and 45 minutes is a long stretch even by yesterday's standards. I'm just putting it out there to remind cats that there are some indeed some long winded rhymesayers who may wanna and will likely step back into the arena and try and break the record.
