July 7
At Cologne, Germany (HBO): Wladimir Klitschko vs. Lamon Brewster, rematch, 12 rounds, for Klitschko's IBF heavyweight title

__________
NEW YORK -- IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko will defend his title against Lamon Brewster in a July 7 rematch in Germany.

The bout will be held in Cologne Arena, K2 Promotions said Monday.

In a 2004 fight for the WBO title, Brewster won with a fifth-round technical knockout. Klitschko had knocked down Brewster in the fourth round, but he was saved by the bell.

"This chance for revenge against Lamon Brewster is a dream come true," Klitschko said. "He is without a doubt an extremely dangerous opponent, but I always hoped for a chance to redeem myself."

Klitschko (48-3 with 43 KOs) needed only a few punches to stop Ray Austin in the second round last month. Brewster (33-3 with 29 KOs) lost the WBO title in April 2006 to Sergei Liakhovich in a unanimous decision.

"I will knock out Klitschko again," Brewster said, "and then no one will be able to say that the first win was a fluke."

“This chance for revenge against Lamon Brewster is a dream come true,” said the 31-year old Klitschko. “He is without a doubt an extremely dangerous opponent, but I always hoped for chance to redeem myself. In the first fight, three years ago, I ran out of gas for some still unknown reason that I still can’t explain. But I am very happy to get back into the ring with Brewster.”

“I will knockout Klitschko again,” said Brewster, “and then no one will be able to say that the first win was a fluke. As fans saw in my knockout win over Luan Krasniqi in 2006, I have no problem fighting in Germany, and am happy to return there.”

Klitschko, the IBF and IBO world heavyweight champion, defends against former world heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster in “The Rematch” in the 20,000-seat Cologne Arena in Cologne, Germany. HBO World Championship Boxing will broadcast live from Germany at 5:00 PM/ET and 2:00 PM/PT, and replayed 10:30 PM/ET/PT. This Heavyweight Championship bout will be televised live in Germany on RTL, as well as in over 100 countries.

In their first battle for Klitschko's WBO championship, Brewster won by fifth round technical knockout on April 10, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The dramatic battle was stopped by the referee in the fifth round. Klitschko dominated the bout, knocking Brewster down in the fourth. Brewster was saved by the bell, and recovered to score a spectacular win to take the title.

Klitschko, a native of Kiev, Ukraine, has a ring record of 48-3, with 43 victories coming by way of knockout. Brewster is 33-3, with 29 KO’s. Brewster was the WBO heavyweight champion from 2004-2006. Wladimir Klitschko captured Olympic gold in the heavyweight division in 1996 in Atlanta, and is currently the longest reigning heavyweight champion.

HBO World Championship Boxing will broadcast live from Germany at 5:00 PM/ET and 2:00 PM/PT, and replayed 10:30 PM/ET/PT.

I have to go with Klitschko by TKO somewhere in the middle rounds. Wladimir has improved with every fight since he fought Lamon 3 years ago and Lamon has been inactive since his loss against Lyakhovich(which was over a year ago). Wladimir had him beat easily in their first bout until he ran out of gas, and I don't see that happening here especially with Brewster coming into this fight without a tune up. Klitschko by TKO in round 7.

You have to blame the trainer, Buddy McGirt, for pulling the plug early. YES, its true, Brewster was getting his ass handed to him...by jabs and the occasional right hand. But still, he wasn't getting beat that badly and this is boxing after all....Brewster will always have a punchers chance.

After the 2nd or 3rd round, Buddy said to Brewster in between rounds, something along the lines of, "are you feeling it? are you feeling it? cuz if you're not I'll stop the fight!" What type of trainer says shit like that after only the 2nd/3rd round??

Granted if the fight were to be continued Klitschko would most likely knock the fuck out of Brewster but still, he always had the chance of landing that big punch, and again, after the 2nd/3rd round Buddy basically GAVE UP on his own fighter and discouraged him from the start.

Total Punches

Klitschko - Total Punches - 199 / 434 (46%)
Jabs - 162 / 346 (47%)
Power punches - 37 / 88 (42%)

Brewster - Total Punches 70 / 248 (28%)
Jabs - 42 / 187 (22%)
Power Punches - 28 / 61 (46%)
