Most routers built for mass consumption suck ass, unfortunately. "Professional/commercial" routers that usually run around $3000 are the only real safe bet.

With that being said, I cant even remember what brand I have at home...but it is a a/b/g/n router.

I would go with a Linksys that allows you to flash a custom firmware so you can modify settings since walls between the rooms can reduce signal.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index

Or this might be an option you want to try...

im not really computer smart. so whats firmware.....i think the walls inbetween the router and ps3 are the real problem as you said....i get wifi on my phone from hella farther out my front door you know?

i got the cisco liksys but im not sure if its customizable or not

i think its this one maybe the 2000 idk

Firmware is basically the software that comes loaded on the router. Think of flashing a custom firmware like jailbreaking an iphone or rooting an android, if that makes any sense to you. Anyway there are tons of youtube videos out there that take you step by step...that router you got now doesn't seem to be customizable.

i got a netgear box.. and i usually connects at 95% to 100% connection stregnth. and if your gonna be 50 to 55 ft away from your wireless adapter you'll be find. i recently had to make my connection private because i had the whole neighborhood feeding off my connection. so you should be fine within that distance, im a couple rooms away.

or you can by a 60 ft ethernet chord. for like twenty bucks and just run it across your walls.

i was wondering what ethernet is, does it go from the phone jack or the modem/router thing....

thanks

it goes from the router directly into your ps3 so you dont have to use wireless and have all those problems.

edit: I have my ps3 hooked straight into the router and then have mine and my roomates comps on wireless. Ive never once had a problem with my ps3 connection. My comps internet lags sometimes and it pisses me off

I would say if your not that tech savvy to just ask someone at the electronics store to get you a linksys wireless n router. They work great and go through walls great, but most of all its really easy to set up on the computer and on the ps3. Just my 2 cents
