It's only what's near you. Depending on the strength of your card. The best card on the market is the Senao 200mw Ext2 , This card has a high transmit as well as recieve power(which is the most important).

You can up it to 400 milliwats with this adapter. Anything stronger than this and the F.C.C will be knocking at your door so be careful.

Do you have DSL? because I have had trouble with my DSL turning off my router whenever the computer tries to hibrenate. Because DSL runns off of the computer the computer cant be turned off or hibrinating and have the internet on at the same time. But if you have cable since cable is an always on connection it will be on even if no computer is connected to the modem as long as the modem is pluged into a cable line.

Nice one - I'm gonna get a wireless router soon - I've got cable so by the sounds of what you guys are telling me it should be OK. The cheapest and best ones I can find are D-Link, but if its screwing you around ravage, then I might try something else. Any suggestions as to the best wireless router?

so there is no way of addding or findin wireless networks its just what the card picks up
Yup......although if you get a card with better reception/range you can possibly reach signals which may be further away from your house....

If you wanna find wireless networks in other places w/o having to turn on your comp. you can get a Wi-Fi finder (you can put it on your keychain or w/e)...

wireless connections can die from time to time because of frequencies in the air such as phones or microwaves. Some routers do their basic job, so you should upgrade to MIMO technology or some shit like that and your signals will be stronger
Yeah I have heard of this before this could be it check out the frequency of the router and all of your phones. My phones run on the same frequency as the router 2.4GHz. I wonder if this is why I have been having trouble with my router lately. Ill have to check this out. Thanks for the info.
