Why, Mr. Anderson, why? Why, why do you do it? Why, why get up? Why keep fighting? Do you believe you're fighting for something, for more than your survival? Can you tell me what it is, do you even know? Is it freedom or truth, perhaps peace - could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Anderson, vagaries of perception. Temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as the Matrix itself. Although, only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it, Mr. Anderson, you must know it by now! You can't win, it's pointless to keep fighting! Why, Mr. Anderson, why, why do you persist?

The irony of that question is that although it is being posed by Agent Smith, it is actually meant to be posed TO the atheist/agnostic, represented in the Matrix by Agent Smith.

It is *Smith* who does not know what his purpose is, or why he exists, or why he keeps fighting, or how to transcend his position.

It is the atheist and agnostic who do not know why they keep fighting/working/waking up each day. They spend their entire lives denying the existence of their own soul and that of the Supersoul, and they are ignorant as to their purpose and to the meaning of their life. Yet they remain struggling, they keep getting back up over and over again, even though they know full well that life will just knock them right back on their silly asses again.

So why get up? Why keep going? Why continue to live if there is no purpose or reason for existing? If you have knowledge of Self, then you know the answer and you know your purpose. If you are in the darkness of ignorance, as represented by Agent Smith and his questions, then you are just as perplexed as he is as to why you keep persisting.

dang, Vyasadeva thats a good point ... but u'r anology is missing something.

Agent Smith does have a propose, that is to destroy the matrix. that is his propose....so it cant be a view from an atheist.

Another thing is that Neo (or humans for that matter) continue to do what the do becuase they 'choose' too. thats what makes them different from AI. AI sees everthing as an equation that needs to be solved, and only one way to get there. Smith has this view.

Um that is bull shit. The reason an athiest agnostic gets up in the morning is to take a piss and get a shower.

"Oh mighty super soul give me purpose define me otherwise my weak interpretation of reality will dissallusion me from the truth. Which is predefined, static and constant even thought it constantly changes because it is based on physical matter which is in a state of constant flux."

that is seriously that stupidist post i've read in a very long time. an atheist can have knowledge of ones self. who are you to think you know the answers? because of your faith? the greeks had a faith once, now we would call them dillusional. whats funny is, i could put money on it that in 3,000 years, someone will be talking about those christians and how silly their beliefs were. this is reality man. what knowledge do you have of history? none? just STUPIDITY IS YOUR RESPONSE.

how can you say things like "It is the atheist and agnostic who do not know why they keep fighting/working/waking up each day.". how the fuckkk can you say that. my life is great. i live life because thats what im here for. i do awesome things, i live for my family. live in the moment, strive for happiness, what philisophy have you read? probably close to none. if your interested i'll give you a few good philosophers to check out, most were atheist. did you ever think that you are the ignorant one? you need the idea of a "SOUL" and HEAVEN to make you happy, constantly looking, hoping to be saved in death? fuckin pitiful. religious freaks make me laugh. the world is a better place because of religion dont get me wrong, but for those who want to criticize and point fingers because they think they know the truth are just stupid. you are the ignorant one. what proof to me do you have that you do actually have some kind of soul, that will float to heaven when you die? NONE. your shit is based on belief, which im sorry to tell you would be bullshit in any court of law, so in my court of reason ur S.O.L.

i know my purpose and i have a great time in life. darkness? fuck you.

I agree with you ZoSicc, except for this statement " the world is a better place because of religion don’t get me wrong"

This I feel is wrong. Think of the peace this planet would be in if all religions never existed. From 5,000+ years ago to the present. Think of how much blood would never have been spilled. Think of how many battles would never have been fought. No. This world is horrible place because of religion.

I was kinda disappointed with the new Matrix...I thought the ending was pretty gay...what a cop out way to end the story. I thought they were actually gonna beat the machines...not just get spared by em.

You should have figured it out by now...

religion itself is not the core problem. The core problem is the PEOPLE.

Religion, as powerful as it is, (and it shows in these examples of bloodshed), was/is often used as an excuse for war and murder...

If there was never any "religion", there would still be another excuse for people to scuffle.
