Im critical of radio stations almost everywhere. KMEL in the bay was known for its interactions with local artists back in the day like Mac Mall, JT and RBL. There was a fallout for a while, but more recently KMEL and now even 94.9 are showing bay area artists love. Quinn and E-40 are getting a shitload of play and B-Legit and Too $hort are gettin theres as well. I remember one weekend they did a whole 3 day set of all bay area music from the "Bammer Weed" days to E-40's new one gasoline. In general they are doing a lot better in the local artists relations catagory, and their playlist is expanding.
But here in San Diego I dont here shit from any of the San Diego artists. Someone told me Lil Rob gets play but I have never heard him on 90.3 or 93.3. Ecay Uno seems to have some pretty good material floating around and so does Mitchy Slick, and Jayo went big and in that dubbcnn interview it sounds like he's gonna go big again with his list of producers and features. Yet still I hear all the same songs. There's 21 Questions, In the Club, Just to Get By, Mariah Carey and Busta Rhymes, Dutty by Sean Paul, and like 4 other songs that are in a constant rotation. It seems like everytime I turn the radio on they are playing one of these songs? What the fuck is up with that? Id support hearing local artists over this bullshit. Let me know what I can do...
