I can't figure out for the life of me why people love the Wild Cat formation in football so much. It's like the biggest fad in football right now. One team started off doing it, I think it was the Dolphins, but I may be mistaken, and now each year several more teams add it to their playbook.

I don't see the point. I rarely see a Wild Cat formation play go for more than 3 yards. The defense knows that it's most likely going to be a run play because the running backs can't throw the football. And even if they do, they're not good enough so the defense does not have to double-cover any of the receivers because the chance is very high that the pass will not be completed, so the defense can rush more guys. And I hate how excited the announcers get every time the team forms in the Wild Cat formation, as if something amazing is going to happen. Oh look, another 3 yard run.

You're better off just having your quarterback in there because he can at least throw accurately, unless it's Jason Campbell, or hand the ball off, so the defense has to be on their toes for either a run or a pass.

Its teh easiest way to incorporate your BEST athlete without handling off. It puts the ball in the hands of a play maker right from the snap. I like it. It takes less reading of a defense to run it. Its gap responsibility blocking. I think its a great change of pace!

people that dont run it can complain...like dutch said its gap responsibility football...if you got players on offense that can fill their gaps it can work out for you because you have more people blocking if the qb is off the field..

i wish titans would run it more then they have.....theyve done it more in the preseason and it worked....chris johnson is great finding the gap....

single wing football is old school shit.....30s nd 40s, its nothing NEW just something that FADED OUT and came back

or deceptive if you peep the sig
That was played to perfection...Dolphins don't play the wild cat formation like that, they always hand it off to a running back and have a tough time getting back to the line of scrimmage... (From what I've seen this year)

Another thought is a formation like the Wild Cat would be perfect for a scrambling QB like Mike Vick or Vince Young..You could be so unpredictable if you had those QB's incorporated in that type of offense...

up untill recently Vince and Chirs Johnson were running the "option" pretty fuckin well....its another version of the single wing but the qb is under center, not many people associate Chris Johnsons 2,500+ yard season to that option. but CJs season has a lot to do with the QB switch that happened last season.

nfl coaches are THE workaholics tho, the more and more you game plan for something the less and less effective it can become over time, but i still like the switch up
