Is this an industry standard or some kind of law? Anybody know the reasoning behind this?

i don't know the reasoning, but i know it's not a law. 50 Cent's first album dropped on a Thursday.
Naw 50 Cent did that bc his albums are usually leaked on the net more then two weeks before they drop. Jay-Z and Eminem also did that before. A couple Labels usually do that with certain releases to help increase sales.

Far as Tuesday release dates they just do that to keep better track of shit like distribution, store inventory, soundscan sales. Think how many albums will flop if they drop anyday so its easier to do it all in one day that way fans can just make one trip to the record store once a week. Some Underground shit drop on Thursdays.

Look at it like this, Payday at a 9-5 job is on one day every week.

Its a good question -- I wonder if it isn't because tuesdays are the least busy shopping day, so stores can stock the shelves without climbing over a bunch of customers and ringing up sales and whatnot...because if you had to put out a bunch of new releases on a saturday afternoon and rearrange a bunch of shit it would suck bad.

btw, stores will sometimes get the CDs a day or two early and they just aren't allowed to sell them before the official date. My friend laced me with the new e-40 on the monday afternoon tho' which made me feel pretty special.
